Today we are celebrating Tia Goforth, who has spent the past year supporting youth and adults with disabilities as they build life skills, gain confidence, and work toward greater independence. As an Independent Living Specialist, Tia works through school and community partnerships and provides day-to-day advocacy to help people achieve their independent living goals.

1. What is your role at Independence, Inc., and what does a typical day look like for you?
I support youth with disabilities as they prepare for adulthood by building life skills, boosting confidence, and connecting them to opportunities through school and community partnerships and I help adults with disabilities live more independently by connecting them with resources, building skills, and promoting self-advocacy in the community.
2. Whatโs one skill or tool youโve learned this year thatโs helped you the most?
Learning you can actually trust and lean on your team
3. What excites you most about your future with Independence, Inc.?
Excited to grow as a team and keeping the great teamwork and fun work environment
Whatโs one thing your co-workers might be surprised to learn about you?
My strange food fears or weird eating habits
4. Whatโs your favorite way to unwind after a long day at work?
Relaxing with my animals (3 dogs, 2 cats) or playing my zoo game
