Black Turmeric (Curcuma Caesia), known as Kali Haldi in Hindi, is native to India, mostly in the northeastern and central parts. It is a rather rare variety of turmeric, with rhizomes showing a bluish black color 💙🖤
I planted one small rhizome 11 months ago, and after patiently watering, tending, caring, and waiting, I had the absolute blessing and honor to finally harvest my very first batch. What a deeply emotional moment for me. I knew it was going to be special, but I had no idea the sheer energy shift that was going to wash through. The longer I sat with her, the deeper the feelings and emotions grew. I have been absolutely mesmerized and in complete awe of her beauty. Never have I felt such intensity when working with and harvesting a plant.
Kali Haldi has more potent benefits than traditional yellow golden turmeric. It is far more pungent and has a lovely camphor like aroma, a stronger affinity to the respiratory system with her antimicrobial and expectorant properties, rich antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, and is traditionally used for topical applications for wound healing and specific skin conditions, pain relief, and has spiritual energetics that have been used for protection and ceremonial purposes. Not for everyday use - only for therapeutic, medicinal, and spiritual usage.
The majority of what was harvested will go back into the soil to continue to nourish and grow the surplus for the following harvest. The rest will be made into intentional medicine, and a small piece will live on my altar.
Om Grace!
