Research shows, women are less likely to receive bystander CPR and defibrillation than men. Being afraid to cause harm, expose breasts, or inappropriate touching are just some of the fears that contribute to this statistic. What we really need to fear, however, is doing nothing to help someone who’s dying.

Good Samaritan laws protect bystanders.

Call 9-1-1 first, ask other bystanders to help, take a CPR/AED class, and be prepared to rescue anyone.

Timothy Burroughs-Love was saved by training staff and an AED supplied by Altra Medical (read his story here: https://www.kidzinshape.org/lovefund). In April, we got a chance to meet Tim and his family and have them join us as guests of honor at the American Heart Association Heart Ball.

We are thrilled to welcome Timothy back but this time as an intern at our sister company, ! Now he will be working alongside us to further our joint missions. From cardiac arrest survivor to One Beat intern, this is an incredible journey and we're excited to support Timothy’s development!

Timothy Burroughs-Love is a senior at American Heritage School. A consecutive two-year winner of the Patriot of the Year award, Tim has proven to be both a dedicated athlete and a brilliant academic.

On August 18, 2023, Tim went into cardiac arrest during the first football game of the year. He was resuscitated and rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Though this diagnosis ended his athletic ambitions, his resiliency and passion continue to shine through. Thankfully, an Altra supplied AED was used to deliver life-saving resuscitation.
