Uterine Fibroids May Be Linked to Increased Heart Disease Risk 💛
New research shows that women with uterine fibroids have a higher risk of developing long-term heart disease. The risk is especially pronounced in women under 40, where it may be more than three times higher compared with women without fibroids.
Fibroids are noncancerous growths in the uterus that affect many women, sometimes causing pelvic pain, heavy periods, or frequent urination. While the exact link between fibroids and heart disease is still being studied, this research highlights the importance of considering overall health — not just reproductive health — when managing fibroids.
If you have fibroids, it’s a good idea to discuss your heart health risk factors with your doctor during your next checkup. Taking a proactive approach to your health helps ensure the best long-term outcomes.
“An awesome physician, surgeon, and person. Skilled, knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate. Highly recommended. We can't thank him enough.”

We’re proud to share this kind feedback for Dr. Jacob Tangir, whose dedication, expertise, and compassionate approach make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients every day at the Center for Gynecologic Oncology.
Endometriosis is a condition that can be challenging to recognize because symptoms vary widely from person to person. The most common sign is chronic pelvic pain, but some women may experience no symptoms at all.
Other possible symptoms include:
• Painful or heavy menstrual periods
• Spotting or bleeding between periods
• Pain during s*x
• Infertility
• Gastrointestinal discomfort during periods
• Neuropathy
Pain levels don’t always match the severity of the condition, and endometriosis can be confused with other conditions. If you experience any of these symptoms, seeing a gynecologist is important for an accurate diagnosis and proper care.
Menopause is a natural transition that usually begins in midlife as the ovaries gradually stop producing reproductive hormones like estrogen and progesterone.
Every woman’s experience is unique, but common symptoms can include:
• Hot flashes
• Night sweats
• Vaginal dryness
• Sleep difficulties
If these symptoms are affecting your daily life, it’s important to talk to your healthcare provider. Options may include lifestyle adjustments, medical treatments, and complementary interventions like therapy or acupuncture to help you feel your best.
"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 💜✨
Even when the path feels difficult, hope remains. At the Center for Gynecologic Oncology, we are here to support you through every step of your journey. Your courage and resilience inspire us every day.
6 Causes of Abnormal Pap Smears and What They Mean
Pap smears are the gold standard for cervical cancer screening, detecting precancerous cells early and helping prevent serious illness. An abnormal result can be concerning, but it doesn’t always mean cancer.
Common causes of abnormal Pap results include:
1. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) – the most common cause; vaccination can protect against many types.
2.Cervical Dysplasia (CIN) – abnormal cells that may need monitoring or removal.
3. Cervical Cancer – often slow-growing and treatable when caught early.
4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) – such as trichomoniasis.
5. Vaginal Infections – bacterial or fungal infections can affect Pap results.
Regular Pap tests are key to detecting changes early, treating infections, and protecting your health. If you have an abnormal result or want to stay on top of your cervical health, our team is here to guide you with expert care and personalized support.
Hormone changes during perimenopause and menopause affect every woman differently, but some symptoms are very common:
• Feeling “not like yourself” — affecting 40-60% of women
• Decreased energy and trouble sleeping
• Hot flashes and night sweats — a sign of low hormones and can be linked to heart health
• Pelvic changes — including more frequent urination at night, recurrent UTIs, and changes in s*xual arousal or discomfort during s*x
These symptoms are real, and they can impact your daily life. Understanding what’s happening in your body is the first step to finding relief and support.
Cervical cancer stands apart from most other cancers.
It is largely preventable, often detected early, and highly treatable when addressed in time. 💙
Most people will be exposed to HPV during their lifetime. While many infections resolve on their own, some can lead to cervical cancer. The good news? Prevention and early detection save lives.
The HPV vaccine, along with regular Pap smears and HPV testing, can detect precancerous changes before cancer develops. Yet too many women remain unprotected due to gaps in awareness and follow-up care.
We believe in prevention, early detection, and timely treatment for every patient who needs it. ✨
Ovarian cysts are incredibly common, and most of the time, they come and go without causing any trouble. But staying informed—and keeping up with regular pelvic exams—can make all the difference.
What Are Ovarian Cysts?
These fluid-filled sacs form on or inside the ovaries. Most are harmless, noncancerous, and disappear on their own. They can be connected to ovulation, hormonal changes, pregnancy, PCOS, endometriosis, or even an infection.
5 Signs You May Have an Ovarian Cyst:
• Bloating or feeling unusually full
• Pain during s*x
• Painful periods
• Pain isolated to one o***y
• Pelvic pain, nausea, or vomiting
While complications are rare, cysts can sometimes twist or rupture—and that requires immediate attention. If symptoms become severe or sudden, prompt care matters.
Our team sees and treats patients experiencing all types of ovarian cysts, offering guidance, diagnostics, and treatment options tailored to your needs. If you’re dealing with symptoms or want to understand your options, we’re here to help.
