Excited to be offering Intensive EMDR this spring. What's an intensive? Glad you asked! Geared especially for new clients, an intensive provides the EMDR therapy and processing one might do in months or years- but in a matter of days. We skip the checking-in at every weekly session, we skip closing up all the compartments at the end of every session and continue working steadily toward our plan. I received some expanded training in this method and am confident that the intensive format is a real asset. Several published studies demonstrate that EMDR intensives are just as effective (and faster) than doing weekly EMDR therapy for the same total hours. An intensive client will not be scheduled for ongoing therapy with me- so it's ideal for anyone who has a busy schedule and needs to make the most of their time and resources. What goes into certification from the EMDR International Association? First, a therapist must be independently licensed to practice. Next, 20 hours in EMDR training takes place followed by 10 hours of consultation on cases using EMDR. After that, 12 more hours of education are needed, plus 20 hours of consultation on use of EMDR in sessions. A video of using EMDR is critiqued, and finally, letters of recommendation from supervisors and peers are submitted and the therapist can be given the credential. So, I'm happy to say I've completed those steps throughout the last 5 years and received my credential this morning! I hope this helps those looking for EMDR therapy to feel confident in my training and use of the method to help heal and find relief from a variety of problems stemming from unhelpful thoughts and experiences!
