Losing an hour of sleep during the time change may not seem like much, but it can have real impacts on how we feel and function. One lost hour may increase the risk of accidents and even heart‑related issues for those with underlying conditions.

Saint Joseph Sleep Medicine nurse practitioner Anna Matulewicz says the best way to prepare is to gradually shift your sleep schedule in the days leading up to the time change—going to bed and waking up about 10 minutes earlier each day. This is especially important for kids, who need more sleep and may struggle at school or during activities if they lose that extra hour.

As we get ready to spring forward, making small adjustments now can help everyone feel more rested and ready for the week ahead.

The days are getting longer; the weather is getting warmer and soon we will lose an hour of sleep. On March 8th we will spring forward one hour as we welcome Day

Meet Pam Soni, our February Behind the Badge nurse and a dedicated member of the Saint Joseph Medical Center Emergency Department for 25 years. Pam is known for her compassion, resilience and commitment to our patients and colleagues. According to her manager, "Pam embodies what it means to care for individuals. She is a strong patient advocate and is always willing to share from her vast experiences as an ED nurse."

Pam has been an emergency nurse for 29 years and says the teamwork and family atmosphere at St. Joe's make her work meaningful. She has faced deep personal loss with the passing of her youngest son, Teddy, whose decision to be an organ donor saved five lives. Pam now honors his legacy by advocating for the Indiana Donor Network.

She shares, "Helping people through their most trying and emotional times has truly been a fulfilling career. I love working here. I think the most satisfying fact is the teamwork of my colleagues and the true sense of family. I have no doubt that even on our most challenging days, everyone works together to support each other. In the most difficult time in my life, Saint Joseph Medical Center provided extraordinary care and support to my family. Their compassion made an unbearable situation just a little more manageable. We are so thankful."

Pam, thank you for the incredible care you provide every day.
