The holidays are the perfect time to gather with loved ones, but they’re also an opportunity to have important conversations about the future. One conversation that can bring peace of mind is about advance care planning. Talking openly with family about your healthcare wishes ensures that your loved ones know what you would want if you're unable to speak for yourself.

Here are some tips to make the conversations easier:
🔸Start early – Don’t wait for a crisis to have this talk.
🔸Be clear – Share your wishes for medical care, including any preferences or concerns.
🔸Listen – Encourage your family to share their thoughts and feelings too.
🔸Document it – Choose a healthcare representative, have your wishes written down and make sure key people have access.

While it might feel a little uncomfortable, it’s an act of love and care for those around you. This holiday season, give the gift of clarity and comfort by discussing your future healthcare choices.

‘Tis the season of giving! Our staff - led by Teddy - shared some holiday cheer at Southfield Village, singing carols and delivering stockings filled with goodies. Don’t let Teddy’s bandana fool you. He’s not on the naughty list this year!

The first Chanukah. The first Christmas. The first holiday without a loved one can feel overwhelming. In fact, celebration may not be a word you can use this year. Instead, you may be asking yourself, “How will I make it through this most difficult time of year?”

Our grief and bereavement programs are available to anyone in Center for Hospice Care’s nine-county service area. We offer individual, family and group counseling for children, teens and adults as well as additional grief programs.

For more information about our bereavement services, drop by our Joel and Elizabeth Welch Life Transition Center at our Mishawaka Campus, 501 Comfort Pl (next to Central Park). You may also visit www.cfhcare.org/bereavement, call 574.255.1064 or email us at grief@cfhcare.org.

In life’s most profound moments, everyone deserves care that sees all of them. Sixteen-year-old Adler Carris and his family know what that feels like. Through our home-based palliative care program, Kaleidoscope, Adler has received compassionate care from a team that’s been with him for years.

Dr. Matt Misner and the Kaleidoscope team have supported Adler’s journey from childhood to young adulthood. His mom, Elizabeth, says it best: “With a child who needs this level of care, what palliative care offers families – and particularly parents of pediatric patients – is an extension of your family. It’s an extension of love. It’s comfort and compassion.”

Your gift to our 2025 Annual Appeal ensures families like Adler’s receive the care they deserve.
