Ouch!! Eczema affects as high as 10-20% of children in the United States and can lead to all sorts of problems. So it is important to understand how the process works and what are potential triggers.

Itch-scratch cycle: One of the biggest issues kids and parents both face is sleep disturbance due to what is known as the itch-scratch cycle. This cycle occurs when a rash itches, it is scratched and this actually causes even more inflammation. It is a very cruel process!!

Food allergy and eczema: Many parents are concerned that food allergy is worsening their child’s eczema. And while kids with severe eczema may be at an increased risk for the development of food allergy, it is actually dust mites and animal dander which do the most harm. Identifying your child's risk for other allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and food allergy are important. But equally as important is controlling these contact aeroallergens such as dust mites.
