Every once in a while, I’ll be walking through the clinic — mid-session, hair in a bun, laser in one hand, ball in the other 😂 — and I catch a glimpse of my kids watching me.

Not just looking…
Watching. Absorbing. Studying.

The way they look at me when they see:

I see admiration.

🧠 Why do we ask kids to walk on the inside edges of their feet… and then look at their hands?

It looks like a simple balance challenge…
but it’s actually a brain-body wiring check.

Try this at home 👇
Have your child walk slowly on the inside edges of their feet.

Now watch what their hands do.

If their hands curl outward, twist, or move automatically…

That isn’t “random” or “quirky.”

It’s the nervous system showing us:

✨ The brain is working hard to stabilize
✨ Upper + lower body are still wired together reflexively
✨ Postural + reflex pathways need more maturity
✨ Balance + core systems are still developing
✨ They’re relying on early survival movement patterns, not efficient ones yet

This is SO common in kids who:

One of the simplest — and most powerful — ways to strengthen the brain-body connection is something most people overlook:

Tapping each finger to your thumb with your eyes closed.

It looks simple.
But here’s what’s actually happening in the brain:
• You’re activating fine motor pathways tied to the frontal lobe (focus, planning, attention)
• You’re engaging the sensory-motor cortex to map where your fingers are in space without looking
• You’re strengthening interhemispheric communication (the left and right hemispheres talking to each other)
• You’re supporting proprioception + body awareness
• You’re improving timing + sequencing — two huge building blocks for attention and regulation

When kids struggle with focus, impulsivity, and staying calm in their bodies, it’s often not a “motivation problem.”
It’s a connection problem.

Their brain and body need clearer communication channels.

This little exercise helps build them.

Try this:
With eyes closed, touch thumb to each finger in order (1-2-3-4, then back 4-3-2-1).
Slow and controlled.
30 seconds each hand.

It should feel simple — but it shouldn’t feel easy.
That small challenge means the brain is working.
