This past weekend, our teams came together for the 7th Annual TRAC-V Symposium — a powerful reminder of what collaboration in healthcare truly looks like.
Advancing healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley.
This year’s symposium brought together experts across trauma, stroke, cardiac, and maternal/neonatal care, reinforcing our shared commitment to improving outcomes across the full continuum of critical care services in our region.
Leaders from Knapp Medical Center, Harlingen Medical Center, and Mission Regional Medical Center united alongside trauma professionals from across the Valley.
Over 30 nurses from our three facilities spent two days learning, sharing, and strengthening the way we respond to critical emergencies in our communities. Their dedication and collaboration continue to elevate the level of care we provide every single day.
Key takeaways from the symposium included:
Enhancing rapid response and coordination across trauma systems
Advancing hemorrhage control and life-saving interventions
Strengthening EMS and hospital collaboration for faster patient outcomes
Improving stroke and cardiac response times through streamlined protocols
Expanding maternal and neonatal emergency preparedness
Utilizing data-driven approaches to improve patient outcomes
We were especially honored to hear from Jennifer Milum, MBA, MSN, RN, Market Trauma Program Manager, who highlighted a major milestone — Harlingen Medical Center becoming the first hospital in Cameron County to implement whole blood in trauma care.
This advancement is a game-changer.
The benefits of whole blood in trauma care include:
Faster, more effective resuscitation in critical bleeding cases
Improved survival rates for trauma patients
Reduced need for multiple blood component transfusions
More efficient response during high-acuity emergencies
Moments like these reinforce the importance of innovation and collaboration. By continuing to invest in advanced care across trauma, stroke, cardiac, and maternal services, our hospitals are ensuring that when emergencies happen, our communities have access to the highest level of care — right here at home.
Together, we are raising the standard of care in the Rio Grande Valley.
