Why Juneteenth Matters

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. This day marks a significant milestone in American history, celebrating the end of slavery and honoring the struggle and resilience of African Americans.
