Every October, while children across America dress as superheroes, ghosts, and princesses, thousands of pediatric cancer patients spend Halloween in hospital rooms instead of neighborhoods lined with pumpkins and laughter. For them, the wish to join in the fun—to feel normal, to trick-or-treat with friends—is often replaced by IV poles, chemotherapy, and isolation protocols. Each year, about 15,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer, making it the leading cause of death by disease among children. Many treatments last months or even years, robbing them of milestones most kids take for granted. Yet, despite their battles, these young warriors still dream of costumes, candy, and carefree nights—reminders that childhood joy should never be lost to cancer

Halloween is a time for fun, imagination, and creativity — and every child deserves to experience that magic, even in the hospital. 💜

Here are a few ways Child Life Specialists, caregivers, and healthcare teams can help make the day special:

🧡 Bring Halloween to the bedside – Deliver treat bags, crafts, or costumes for children who can’t leave their rooms.

🖍 Offer themed activities – Pumpkin painting, sensory play, or virtual costume contests bring smiles and normalcy.

💬 Focus on emotional safety – Some decorations or costumes can be scary; keep things age-appropriate and comforting.

🤝 Include families – Encourage siblings and parents to join in creative activities together for a sense of togetherness.

🌟 Collaborate with Child Life Specialists – They’re experts at creating inclusive, joy-filled experiences that promote coping and connection.

Even small moments of play and laughter can transform a hospital stay into something meaningful. 💙

Yesterday we got a call from mom Mrs Jennifer… continuing her legacy, she wanted a meaningful destination for the flowers 💐 we thought what better to honor our heroes in heaven, which we are sure met beautiful Larissa💛 thank you so much Mrs Jennifer for making us part of her it.

🎃 Today we had our Halloween visit at Driscoll Children’s Hospital RGV! Thank you to the amazing Child Life Team for help.
Our heroes got to choose their favorite toys! 🧸 we are so grateful to all of you who have made our mission possible!

Through all these years, we’ve had the blessing to meet wonderful & extraordinary people. We are still in shock about the news. Larissa was without doubt one of a kind. Always smiling & sharing her love to our heroes. Going above & beyond to make a change in her community.
Thank you for all you did for us, and sharing your beautiful light with us. we will cherish your memory forever.
It was such an honor to meet you.
Her beautiful soul will be forever in our hearts.
Please, pray for his mom Mrs Jennifer, Dad & brother for such tragic loss.
