My goal is to help you heal faster, move better, and improve your quality of life so you can get back to doing what you love with confidence.

Let’s talk about surgery optimization. With Swift Joint Replacement, we've implemented several unique strategies to prepare you for surgery and ensure the best possible outcome. Today, we’re focusing on one important aspect of that preparation: Protein Intake. Let’s explore why getting the right amount of protein before and after surgery can make a big difference in your recovery journey.

Proteins are made of amino acids that are the building blocks of tissue formation, growth, and repair. They promote wound healing and soft tissue recovery in the body. Protein is essential for the body’s ability to repair damaged tissues and is especially important for recovery following joint replacement surgery. Protein also contributes to the immune system, helping to fight off wound infections and to promote healing.

Did you know that up to 70% of patients are protein deficient? This means they aren't getting the recommended amount of protein from their everyday diet. We recommend drinking a protein shake daily for 7 days before and 7 days after your surgery. Protein malnutrition has been shown to increase complications after joint replacement. These complications include muscle atrophy, longer time to return to activities of daily living, and an increased risk of surgical site infection.

When choosing a protein shake, look for one with 20-40 grams of protein per serving. Imtuitive offers medical-grade protein shakes and are available for purchase through Northern Rockies Orthopaedics. Other common brands of protein shakes include Premier Protein, Orgain, Muscle Milk and Core Power. These can be purchased at most grocery stores.

If you’re ready to take the next step toward a pain-free life and experience the difference with Swift Joint Replacement, call Northern Rockies Orthopaedics today at 406-728-6101 to schedule your appointment.
