Work-related soreness often builds slowly.

It’s often not from one incident, but from repeated movements done under fatigue or long days of demand.

These aren’t “mistakes”; they’re simply signs your body is absorbing more load than it can comfortably keep up with.

Physical therapy helps identify how your body is managing that load and what strength or recovery strategies can support you.

If soreness keeps showing up, our PTs can help you understand why.

If your teen seems constantly sore, tired, or “off,” it’s not just part of being an athlete,

it’s often a sign their recovery isn’t matching their workload.

Teen athletes juggle school, growth, sports, and late nights.

Their bodies don’t recover like adults, so even small gaps in rest can show up as soreness that lingers, mood changes, or dips in performance.

One of the most effective ways to support recovery,

and one most teens overlook,

is improving sleep habits.

Not a long routine. Not a restrictive schedule. Just simple shifts that help their body adapt to the load they’re already carrying.

Here are a few ways to make sleep work for your athlete:

1. Keep wake time consistent
Even on weekends. This helps regulate energy, mood, and recovery more than an early bedtime alone.

2. Keep screens out of bed
Light + scrolling make it harder for the brain to settle and fall asleep.

3. Create one reliable wind-down cue
A warm shower, a few minutes of light stretching, or reading. Consistency matters more than the activity.

4. Limit late caffeine
Teens process caffeine slower, so anything in the afternoon can impact sleep quality.

5. Build a predictable pre-bed environment
Dimmed lights + quiet activities help the brain shift from “on” to “off” more easily.

Better sleep = better recovery = reduced risk of injury

Ski and snowboard season asks a lot from your body, especially after months away from those movements.

The best way to feel strong on day one isn’t pushing harder on the mountain, it’s preparing your body for the forces you’re about to ask of it.

Most skiers and snowboarders don’t need complicated programs.

They need a few well-chosen movements that rebuild confidence on uneven terrain, help them handle impact, and make long days feel easier on their joints.

If you want a simple way to start, Ben Blakely PT, DPT, CSCS put together a pre-season strength and balance routine you can do in under 20 minutes.

It’s designed specifically for winter athletes in Montana and built to fit into a busy schedule.
