We’re wrapping up February, and that means it’s your final opportunity to help support the Abbott House and the life-changing work they do for children and families in our community.
For every oil change scheduled online or through the app before the end of the month, we’ll donate $5 to Abbott House.
It doesn’t take a big gesture.
Just a few clicks.
You keep your engine running smoothly.
Together, we help local kids keep moving forward.

Today, this young lady added her name to our tree.
Each set of initials in our entryway represents a young person who has completed her program and is stepping into what comes next. It marks months of hard work, growth, and healing. It marks resilience. It marks progress.
Now she leaves with new tools, confidence, and a future that feels possible. We are incredibly proud of the young woman she has become and can’t wait to see what she does next!
The tree keeps growing and so do the girls who sign it.

We’re looking forward to tabling at the 2026 South Dakota Special Education Conference!
Stop by our table to connect with our team, learn more about our programs, and pick up helpful resources. We’re excited to be part of a conference that brings together so many professionals dedicated to supporting youth.
Today, a young man in our care took the first part of his GED.
Last year, Abbott House West, formerly WellFully, worked with the State to become an official GED testing site. Now, youth in our programs can choose to take their exams without leaving campus. Just this school year, four clients have completed their GED, and three more have begun the testing process.
For many of the young people we serve, traditional school settings have been interrupted by trauma, mental health challenges, or instability. While most of our clients continue earning credits toward their high school diplomas, offering an alternative for those who need it is crucial. Removing barriers matters.
This isn’t just about a test.
It’s about access.
It’s about opportunity.
It’s about a future that stays within reach.
We’re proud to help create pathways forward.

Late last year, an anonymous donor gave each of the girls in Mitchell money to purchase gifts for their Secret Santa exchanges.
While they had so much fun picking out thoughtful presents for one another, we also used this as a moment to teach something bigger. At Abbott House, we encourage our girls to look beyond themselves and think about how they can give back to the community around them.
After finishing their shopping, the girls were invited to donate any remaining money to an organization of their choice. They chose to support Mitchell CASA - First Circuit CASA, Safe Place of Eastern South Dakota, and The Mitchell Animal Rescue Site. Our student ambassadors were honored to present checks to each organization on behalf of their peers.
We are so proud of the generosity and thoughtfulness these young ladies continue to show. Healing doesn’t just change a young person’s future. It also impacts the community around her.
And to the anonymous donor who made this possible — thank you for helping create a ripple effect of kindness.

🩺 We’re Hiring a Nurse in Rapid City 🩺
Abbott House is seeking a full-time or part-time nurse to join our Rapid City team.
This role is more than clinical care. It’s about supporting youth as they navigate trauma, mental health challenges, and the path toward healing. Our nurses are essential members of a trauma-informed team that provides steady, compassionate care in a structured residential setting.
What we offer:
✔ Competitive salary
✔ Full benefits package
✔ Supportive, mission-driven team
✔ Meaningful work that truly changes lives
If you’re a licensed nurse who values relationship-based care and wants to be part of something bigger, we would love to connect with you.
We are incredibly grateful to the Rushmore Lions for their generous support of Abbott House.
The club recently collected donations to support the youth in our care and one of their members stepped forward to match the total amount raised. Because of their combined generosity, the impact will go even further for the children and teens we serve.
Thank you, Rushmore Lions Club, for investing in hope and healing. We are so thankful for you.

Valentine’s Day in Mitchell was filled with frosting, sprinkles, and a whole lot of heart. 💕
The girls spent time decorating heart-shaped sugar cookies, piling on the icing and adding their own creative flair. There’s something special about gathering around a table, laughing, and making something sweet together.
To top it off, our Student Council made sure every girl felt seen and celebrated by handing out a rose to each one. A simple gesture, but a meaningful reminder that every girl in our care is valued and loved.

We are incredibly honored to be named February’s Ford Hero by Vern Eide of Mitchell! We are so grateful for partners who believe in our mission and choose to invest in the children and teens we serve across South Dakota.
Even more exciting? They’ve made it easy for the community to get involved.
Throughout February, for every oil change scheduled online or through the Ford app, $5 will be donated back to Abbott House. It’s a simple way to take care of your vehicle while also supporting youth who are on their own journey of hope and healing.
We are thankful for businesses like Vern Eide Ford that show up for our kids in meaningful ways. 💙

Today we are faced with anxiety and uncertainty. We have questions about our future and the new reality each one of us will face. We feel like we are experiencing on ongoing earthquake that never stops shaking and changing things.
Ironically at Abbott House we are helping children who have lived with this feeling of vulnerability for much of their lives. Not a feeling of vulnerability about a virus, but a feeling of uncertainty about their lives. You see, children who have lived through abuse, neglect and other negative events understand the feeling of life being out of control.
In our programs we see the fallout from these life events. Even in this time of uncertainty, we continue to work hard to provide safety and stability for our young people and our staff. We know that during times of sickness and dramatic change, our own children need us more than ever. It is the same for the young people in our care. Our commitment to South Dakota children has never been stronger thanks to the dedicated Abbott House employees who are working tirelessly to maintain a sense of normalcy for our youth.
Our residential treatment program is operating as usual with girls attending school and living in our treatment facility like they always do. They miss seeing the many volunteers who come to tutor, entertain or educate them, but they understand limiting visitors will keep them safe.
In our Bridges therapeutic foster homes in Rapid City and Mitchell, we are above capacity. There are so many children who need a family and a safe home right now. Our foster parents are truly amazing. Every one of our homes is operating like a "home school," with scheduled class times and study times for each home so our young people can adequately access computers and other technology to complete classroom assignments. They are having virtual visits with social workers and coordinating telehealth with counselors.
Perhaps the students who are struggling the most are those who are no longer employed. Some of our foster children and our young adults in the independent living program lost their jobs due to the situation. Because of these hardships, we have waived rent for all of our independent living occupants and are helping to pay for their basic needs such as food, medicine, clothing, transportation, and other basic needs while also offering encouragement during this difficult time.
Yet, despite all of these challenges, our amazing and dedicated staff continues to encourage and support each other, while serving our youth and families with understanding and compassion. We know there are still challenging weeks ahead.
We cannot do this alone. The financial burden being felt by so many is also persistent at Abbott House. If you would like to help the youth and our staff with necessary masks, groceries, transportation and other medical needs, please use the following link to give online.

Thank you for helping during this challenging time. We will get through this TOGETHER and we will be stronger in the end.
