Just thought I’d share this post again from last year. It’s definitely worth a read for anyone that has suffered from a concussion or brain trauma. And remember all hyperbaric oxygen packages are 50% off through the end of this year!
So I have an interesting story to share. In late October, our 12 year old Will was messing around on his skateboard on the driveway and in a split second he fell and smoked his forehead on the concrete. His ears wouldn’t stop ringing, he was in terrible pain and his headache was severe. Scott is trained in concussion protocols, and after his assessment found that Will could not converge his eyes at all – such as bringing them in towards his nose. His balance was also affected and he was falling to the right a lot. And he just wasn’t himself. He would sit there and stare into space – he wasn’t the chatty, bubbly, energetic kid we knew. Typically after a concussion, the mainstream way of thinking is to just rest and let the brain heal. This is not an incorrect way of thinking. But Will wasn’t able to go to school, he couldn’t read, and with each day he just wasn’t getting any better. Both Scott and I were highly concerned. We decided to try putting Will into our Hyperbaric Oxygen Tank that we have at the clinic. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (or HBOT) involves laying in a soft chamber where increased pressure allows your lungs to take in more oxygen than what’s possible under normal conditions. In the case of traumatic brain injury or stroke, the brain can suffer damage during the brief moments of oxygen deprivation. While the oxygen supply typically returns, the injury may still affect the brain’s ability to recover. So HBOT can help by delivering extra oxygen to the damaged areas, potentially improving cognitive function and supporting neural recovery, even long after the initial trauma.
Will LOVED it. He said that it was “very relaxing” and he actually looked forward to the daily sessions. We could tell a difference after the first treatment. Within 3 visits, we had our Will back. He was able to converge his eyes, his balance returned to normal, the bags under his eyes went away, his facial color improved, and he was bouncing around the house chasing our puppy around.
I wanted to share this story with you because I think the concussions in our youth are becoming more common, and we want their brains to be able to heal correctly. Too often kids return to sports or life when their brains haven’t had a chance to properly heal yet and that has serious ramifications way into the future.
HBOT is an amazing healing tool. I’m going to share a few tidbits throughout the next couple of weeks about all the ways increased oxygen can help with all sorts of things – traumatic brain injury/concussion/stroke, long COVID symptoms, athletic performance and recovery, improved circulation, improved immune function, decreased inflammation and more.
AND….from now until the end of the year – all HBOT sessions or packages are 50%! This is a HUGE savings! Call the clinic today to learn more. And call fast – we have limited number of appointments for these HBOT sessions!
