How many times a day do we move, and not think about how we move? Or work-work-work and feel broken down. How many days do we experience debilitating pain at its end? Pain is a response, a response to something. Entertain the idea for a moment that you don't have a "bad back", only a spine that has....

Taraxacum officinale,
Dandelions- or as I call them Dandy🦁

The first thing I relate them to is wish making, and roundup, which is ironic because they are a powerhouse when it comes to liver detoxing.

Leaves are used to stimulate digestion & used as a diuretic to get rid of excess fluid and help kidney function- like a natural p*e pill!

Flowers have antioxidant properties, vitamins a & minerals.
The root is for liver & gallbladder detox.

You can use the flower and leaves to make a vinegar, or tincture is most popular for the bitter tonic that is the root. Check with your local herbalist on drug interactions! Make a good wish ✨

Matricaria Chamomilla~
German Chamomile

I’ve heard it referred to as an angel in plant form. It’s sweet smelling, reduces fear, anxiety, stress, hyperactivity, pain aches, restlessness & insomnia. It makes a beautiful pre-bedtime tea for children, and eases inflammation and “fluishness”. It contains quercetin antioxidants, is anti-bacterial/viral and a nervine that is gentle and effective. Added benefit to nursing mothers it’s the high calcium content.

It is a great alternative to the overly used *Lavender* which many do not know- has high phytoestrogens. Too much phytoestrogens cause hormone disruptions our little ones!

It’s my recommended alternative to lavender for our boys. There are also many foods with phytoestrogens that can be limited.

Chamomile actually has *hormone balancing* effects for men and women, with aromatase inhibitor properties- blocking estrogen for men increasing T levels and for women lowering them. This is especially helpful for women with PCOS!!

It can be used as a wash or compress for soothing irritated eyes (and pinkeye), bruises and wounds and a mouthwash for oral inflammation.

This weeks herb-hack:
Mullein~ Verbascum Thapsus

Mullein is a wonder herb!

2,000 years ago the leaves were smoked for pulmonary diseases. In the 1800s mullein was a popular treatment for Tuberculosis in Europe, United States and UK. It’s great for aore throats in a tea and is a tonic for the lungs and lymph.

Native American use of mullein includes a wide range of ailments, including but not limited to abscesses, bruises, sprains, rashes, and burns. Zuni people used similar Mullein poultices made from the powdered root to treat rashes, sores, skin infections, and athlete’s foot.

I first discovered this herb when looking for something to treat my kiddos ear congestion.
It makes a great friend infused in oil, or internally as a tincture.

It has antibacterial properties against e.coli, staph and pneumonia. Antiviral (proved against influenza) antioxidant & antitussive, expectorant.
Saponins provide anti-inflammatory, pain relieving anti tumor properties. Found effective as vermicide and against tapeworms and roudworms.

The leaves and flowers are used mostly, and root is said to have positive effect on back pain with its strong stalk.

American settlers used crushed seeds to poison fish to easily catch and eat them, so don’t eat the seeds!

I recently started introducing a (working up to) 2 min of COLD 🥶 at the end of a shower.

Although I’ve known about this kind of therapy for some time, and made popular by Wim Hoff, up until now I convinced myself these past few months of winter that it’s already cold enough outside! ❄️

I’m not sure if it’s timing, or that the effect is a response; but I’ve noticed a new sense of spaciousness in myself.

Another mama told me recently that she’s noticed her family doesn’t get sick anywhere near as often, and that was good enough reason for me to try again! What’s your experience playing with cold hydrotherapy?

The Alchemy of Touch

MELT's mission began with the intention to serve microcosmic worlds living in our bodies. By bringing tools of the trade and magic of healthy touch the empowerment in our community grows, spreading beyond boundaries. Developing the inner landscape drastically changes the world around us. The Alchemy of Touch is just that. Realizing our optimal function comes from microscopic cell structures communicating with each other- and how that harmony or disharmony extends out to the overall structure.

Renee Theuriet grew up in the Bay Area of California. Inspired by community and communication work while volunteering at the Mosaic Project of Oakland, CA she decided to be a Massage Therapist. Training was held in an intensive submersion at the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy in 2010. Since then, she has taken many additional bodywork trainings and currently resides in Maui, Hawaii. She is happy serving Maui’s community as a Holistic Healthcare Practitioner.
