DRY MOUTH IS A HUGE DEAL!

Dry mouth significantly increases the risk of getting a lot of cavities.🦷 🦠

The reason is because when we have dry mouth we lack saliva. Saliva is a hero 🦸‍♀️ to our teeth because it neutralizes acidic plaque, it washes away food particles and brings restorative minerals back into our teeth. 🦷

🦷Neutralizes plaque- aka when we have an acidic oral environment we dramatically increase risk for decay. Decay causing bacteria thrive in an acidic environment. But if we have proper saliva it brings the pH up, to neutralize the oral cavity and create an environment where decay causing bacteria don’t thrive and don’t cause problems.

🦷Washes food- aka if we don’t have saliva, food sticks to our teeth. When food sticks to our teeth it makes it more likely that the sugar in the food mixed with an acidic environment can cause decay. So if we have saliva washing our food off our teeth and into our digestive tract we will have less chance for decay.

🦷Brings minerals- saliva contains calcium and phosphorus minerals that coat our teeth and fills in microscopic demineralized gaps in the enamel, which strengthens the enamel making it less likely to break down from sugar and acid.

Dry mouth happens from mouth breathing and is a side effect of many medications. The biggest thing to do is promote saliva flow to stay away from dry mouth.
-drink lots of water 💦
-Mouth-tape to prevent mouth breathing 😶
-Limit caffeine, alcohol and to***co (dried out tissue) ❌
-Chew sugar free gum
-Suck on xylitol lozenges
-Try mouth moisturizing gel

At the Dental Care Center, our patients can expect to get the best and most up to date dental care available. ✅

We are constantly learning new advances in the field so our patients are informed and educated about their oral health and the systemic impacts. 🤓🦷

Dentists can talk about and help more than just your teeth. It used to be that dentists would only talk about cavities and crowns. Now, we can help our patients recognize the systemic impacts our oral health is affecting. These areas include sleep, airway, breathing, tongue positioning, function of teeth, tonsil size and nutrition. 💤👅🌬️👃

This is a new way of thinking and many times not something your average dentist talks about. But we want the best for you and your family. We want to provide this new information and knowledge so that we can do our due diligence, and make your dental experience comprehensive and worth your while. ✨

We would like to wish you a Blessed Easter ✝️

🎉Introducing🎉

A new Dr. Jen’s toothpaste product, that includes the remineralization agent nano-hydroxyapatite, from naturally derived eggshells. 🥚

This is the first and only product of its kind!! 🤩

The eggshell extract not only provides the nano-hydroxyapatite, but also supplies added nutrients like collagen, zinc and magnesium to help strengthen enamel and reduce sensitivity. 🦷

Beings that the eggshell is natural instead of synthetic, it helps increase bioavailability for up-taking the nano-hydroxyapatite and minerals into our teeth. This means it works faster and more effectively to repair enamel, reduce sensitivity, and brighten teeth. 😁

Give it a try! Stop in and grab one today👍🏼

Nutrition plays a huge role in keeping our teeth healthy. Key vitamins in dental health include vitamin A, C, D, K2 and minerals like calcium and phosphorus.

Vitamin A- helps saliva production which helps with keep our teeth clean and fight off decay causing bacteria. Food items to include are farm fresh free range eggs (to get that orange yolk), liver and orange colored foods like sweet potatoes and carrots. 🥕🍠🍳

Vitamin C- helps with gum tissue health like protections from inflammation/gingivitis and helps collagen production which keeps our gum tissues strong. Important food sources include citrus fruits, strawberries and bell peppers. 🍋🍓🫑

Vitamin D- helps with calcium and phosphorus absorption and promotes bone density. Food sources include fatty fish like salmon and fortified dairy products and sunlight. 🍣🥛☀️

Vitamin K2- helps calcium bind to teeth and helps with bone maintenance which protects from bone loss aka periodontal disease. Food items to include are leafy greens, broccoli and Brussel sprouts. 🥗🥬🥦

Calcium/ phosphorus- our teeth are made of these minerals, so incorporating them in our diet helps strengthen our bones and teeth. Food sources include protein rich foods like meat, eggs and cheese. 🍗🥩🧀

These nutrients reduce inflammation, decrease decay rates and strengthen our teeth. 🦷❤️🍽️

🦠Dental Abscesses are infections in the tooth that are typically caused by untreated decay bacteria.

🦷The decay grows/ eats away so much tooth structure that it reaches the nerve and infects the tooth.

🩸When decay bacteria reaches the nerve it causes pain because the nerve of the tooth is where the life of the tooth is, it has blood flow and sensation.

There are two options when treating a dental abscess.
1️⃣One being, extract the tooth to remove the source of infection, which is the tooth itself.
2️⃣Two being, root canal therapy, which is a way to save the tooth by cleaning out the nerve of the tooth and replacing it with a filler material. The tooth is technically dead because it has no blood supply, but you still have a tooth there to chew on.

✳️✳️Many patients ask if antibiotics could help save the tooth. While that is a good thought, it doesn’t help in this scenario. The antibiotics do kill off the decay bacteria, which does help the tooth to feel better, however, since there is a path leading to the nerve of the tooth, it’s only a matter of time before more bacteria find its way to the nerve again and re-infect it.

🦷The tooth is the source of infection so it must be treated with dentistry.
