Exploring the 8 limbs of yoga 🧘 ✨

2:5 Niyama (Personal Observances & Ethical Conduct) [Ishvara Pranidhana]

“Ishvara Pranidhana, is to “surrender to the divine” or “devotion to a higher power”. It encourages acknowledging a force greater than oneself, cultivating humility, and letting go of the need for control to embrace the natural flow of life with trust and an open heart. This concept is not limited to religious devotion but encompasses a broader sense of connecting to the sacredness of existence.

✨ Understanding Ishvara Pranidhana ✨

Surrender and Trust:
Ishvara Pranidhana involves surrendering the ego and relinquishing the desire to control outcomes, trusting that a higher power or the universe has a greater plan.

Devotion and Gratitude:
It is a practice of devotion, not necessarily to a specific deity, but to a source of life or the divine spark found in all beings. Expressing gratitude for existence is a core component of this Niyama.

Inner Focus and Connection:
The practice shifts focus inward, assessing breath, body, and mind to foster a strong connection to a higher power. It emphasizes union within oneself, balancing physical and internal aspects of practice.

Letting Go:
Rather than fighting against the natural course of events, Ishvara Pranidhana encourages active engagement with the moment, accepting what is, and finding peace through this surrender. “

Exploring the 8 limbs of yoga 🧘 ✨

4. Pranayama (breath control)

“Pranayama is a practice in yoga that involves controlling and regulating the breath. It is derived from the Sanskrit words “prana” (life force) and “ayama” (to control or extend). Pranayama is the ancient yogic practice of controlling the breath to balance the mind, body, and energy. It supports relaxation, boosts focus, and enhances overall well-being. “
