weather has taken a turn for the worse. A local offers a blunt
warning: “Get out while you can. Winter is coming.” Taking the advice
to heart, they make a break south, battling rain, mud, and near-zero
visibility on their two-day, 900+ kilometer ride from Tuktoyaktuk down
the Dempster Highway, back to the Klondike Highway and the historic
frontier town of Dawson City."

I have a confession: I hate Instagram.

More specifically, I hate how it’s reshaping the way we see the world.

Human vision is panoramic - wider than it is tall. Long before cameras existed, painters understood this instinctively. Landscapes stretched across wide canvases, horizons breathed, and scenes felt natural because the world unfolds sideways.

Photography followed the same logic. There’s a reason horizontal images are called 'landscape' and vertical ones are called 'portrait'. One reflects how we experience environments, the other was designed to frame people.

From early large-format cameras to Ansel Adams, the landscape format wasn’t just a creative choice - it mirrored how we actually see the world.

Now we’re squeezing mountains, roads, and entire horizons into vertical frames built for scrolling thumbs. The world hasn’t changed -only the way we’re being trained to look at it has.

Instagram isn’t just changing how we share images - it’s reshaping our horizons...
