Moberly, Mo Animal Control/ Dog Pound We service the City Limits of Moberly by enforcing current ordinances and state laws. This is the official page for the Moberly, MO Animal Shelter.

We are licensed by the Department of Ag as a City Dog Pound, Unfortunately WE DO NOT ACCEPT CATS as we do not have the proper set up to care for their many needs. Welcome and please read the RULES of the page. Thanks for stopping by! We’re a City Dog Pound, and we ask that you follow a few simple rules while you’re here:

3. We understand that opinions may differ regarding breed standards, rules, practice policies or procedures. Please keep comments positive and productive, and reflect responsible pet ownership.


4. Please represent yourself truthfully. No fake profiles or false organizations.

5. Our main goal is to find loving homes for dogs that are left behind and to care for them in the best way possible while they are under our care. Please share our posts so lost dogs can be reunited and those not claimed can find new homes. The Moberly Pound is also Animal Control. The staff members help both Humans and Animals and also run, clean, and adopt animals to new loving home. All dogs adopted from this facility are FULLY vetted including HW Test and Microchip as added care. We serve the City Limits of Moberly ONLY. When a dog is picked up as a stray it is put on 5 Day Stray Hold. This hold period is per the Department of AG Guideline, after the hold period ends the dog becomes the property of the animal shelter. The HOUNDS Program (This program is for SHELTER DOGS ONLY and is not available to the general public- All dogs entering this program are Spayed/ Neutered, Up-To-Date on all their shots and Flea/ Tick/ Worm Medicine, Heartworm Tested & Micro-Chipped and sent to the Moberly Correctional Center to be taught Basic Obedience by the Inmates. The Program is 8 Weeks Long. How to Reclaim Your Dog:
We ask that you bring a Collar And Leash of your own when when you come to claim a lost dog or adopt a dog. You will also need to bring CASH OR CHECK for the impound fees along with a copy of your drivers license and Proof of Ownership ( Vet Records in your name) The impound fee is $25.00 initial intake then $8.00 per day for each day the dog is here. After 5 days the dog becomes the property of the animal shelter and will be adopted out.

The first rabies case in a dog in nearly 7 years in Missouri was recently confirmed in mid-November.
According to the McDonald County Health Department, lab testing from the Missouri State Public Health Laboratory confirmed a dog had recently been exposed to rabies.
The health department stated the dog was likely exposed in the northwest area of McDonald County, possibly from an exposure to a skunk.
The confirmation marks the first case of rabies in a dog in Missouri in nearly 7 years, according to data made available by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).
In 2025, one rabies exposure in a cat was confirmed in Missouri in Howell County.
The dashboard shows bats, cats, cows, dogs, foxes, horses, raccoons, rodents, rabbits, skunks and other domestic and wild animals are often tested for rabies in Missouri.
As of the latest update on the dashboard in 2025, a total of 2,076 rabies tests had been conducted on several different animals in the state, resulting in 31 confirmed cases of rabies, including 24 bats and 5 skunks in addition to the one cat and one dog.
In the last ten years, Missouri has averaged about 24 cases of rabies per year among animals.
The McDonald County Health Department posted the following facts about rabies:

• 90% of rabies cases occur in wildlife (bats, raccoons, skunks, foxes).
• Incubation in pets is typically 3 to 12 weeks.
• Early signs are sudden behavioral changes and unexplained progressive paralysis.
• Later stage signs are aggression, biting, paralysis, excessive drooling, difficulty swallowing.

The department also provided these tips for people to protect their animals and family:

• Keep domestic animals vaccinated.
• Avoid contact with wild animals.
• Report suspicious animal behavior to local authorities

Anyone out there want to give CoCo another chance at the good life every dogs deserves??????

CoCo was found at a property where his owners tied him in a brushy area with nasty water, short chain and a dog house covered in moldy straw for him to lay in..

UNFORTUNATELY......... Due to his living conditions he tested positive for Heartworm a week ago 😞

CoCo is quite hyped up being in the shelter that it would be in his best interest to find a calm couch to lay on before moving forward with his treatment. He has been started but we can not move forward with the injections as it will most certainly be too risky being in a kennel environment...

This guy literally NEEDS A HOME TO SAVE HIM!

Anyone want to give a dog a home for the Holidays? Not as a gift but as a lifetime commitment.... We have 2 AmAzInG Dogs who are set to graduate on December 16th from the Puppies for Parole Program, They both need a couch and a well deserved holiday spent in a home not a kennel.

We will even reduce adoption fees for all of our dogs until the end of they year!

Our Story

Moberly Animal Shelter is both the Shelter and Animal Control. The Shelter provides services for dogs within the city limits of Moberly, MO.

Staff members care for the dogs that are currently in the shelter along with catching dogs that have wandered too far or have been left to fend on their own, we also handle neglect and abuse cases.
