Actor James Van Der Beek's death at age 48 is putting a spotlight on colorectal cancer, and its rise among young people. Six years ago, in 2020, the death of 43 year old Chadwick Boseman due to colon cancer als drew attention to the growing trend of colorectal cancer in younger patients.

The "Dawson's Creek" alum was diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal cancer in 2023, and publicly revealed his diagnosis in November 2024. Today on National Women Physician Day, we celebrate our very own Dr. Fleet! She has enjoyed a remarkable and fruitful career as a gastroenterology specialist. A true trailblazer, she was the first female gastroenterology fellow at the University of Florida and went on to become the only female gastroenterologist in private practice in Mobile for more than 25 years.

Her dedication, perseverance, and leadership have paved the way for generations to come, and we are honored to celebrate her today.
