BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, and vertical bands connecting the neck and jaw (platysma bands) in adults.
-
Talk to your doctor about BOTOX® Cosmetic and whether it’s right for you. There are risks with this product—the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms. Alert your doctor right away as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems or muscle weakness can be a sign of a life-threatening condition. If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities. Patients with these conditions before injection are at the highest risk. Swallowing problems may last for several months. Side effects may include allergic reactions, neck and injection-site pain, fatigue and headache. Allergic reactions can include rash, welts, asthma symptoms, and dizziness. Don’t receive BOTOX® Cosmetic if there’s a skin infection. Tell your doctor your medical history, muscle or nerve conditions (including ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome), and medications, including botulinum toxins, as these may increase the risk of serious side effects.

What an Upper Blepharoplasty Actually Involves

Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to improve heaviness or hooding of the upper eyelids by removing excess skin and, when appropriate, small pockets of fat or muscle.

Procedure Overview

-Precise marking of the eyelid crease
The surgeon begins by marking the natural or ideal crease to guide the incision and ensure a balanced, natural contour.

-Incision within the eyelid crease
A fine incision is made directly in the crease, which allows the scar to remain well-hidden once healed.

-Removal of excess tissue
Redundant skin is trimmed, and, if needed, a conservative amount of fat or muscle is adjusted to smooth puffiness without altering the eye’s natural shape.

-Delicate closure
The incision is closed with very fine sutures to support optimal healing and a minimal, crease-hidden scar.

Benefits
Reduces upper lid heaviness
Improves eyelid definition
Enhances the appearance of tired or “hooded” eyes
Provides a cleaner space for makeup application

Recovery

Most swelling and bruising resolve over 5–10 days, sutures are typically removed around one week, and final results continue to refine over 6–12 weeks.

Extra eyelid skin (dermatochalasis) and ptosis often look similar, but they’re very different conditions:
• Dermatochalasis: Loose, excess skin resting on the upper lid. The eyelid muscle works normally.
• Ptosis: The eyelid itself sits lower because the lifting muscle is weak or stretched.
An exam helps determine which one you have, and which procedure will actually correct it.
