MCHD WIC Clinic

MCHD WIC Clinic Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program. Call (888) 942-4673 to obtain further information.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women who had a baby within the last six months, infants, and children under the age of five. One must meet income requirements and have a nutritional risk that proper nutrition could help to improve. If you think you may qualify, please call your county health department to make an appointment. At the WIC appointment, you will need to bring all three of the following:
•Proof of residency (a document with your street address on it, such as a lease or bill)
•Proof of identity (a driver's license, birth certificate)
•Proof of income (pay stubs) or proof of enrollment in a state program (automatic income eligibility if currently enrolled in TANF, Food Stamps, or Medicaid)

At the appointment, once the above is documented, you will be evaluated for nutritional risk. Nutritional risk is one of the main qualifying factors in determining benefit eligibility for pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women, and infants and children under five.

The Mobile County Health Department and Family Health, its primary care division, are proud to allow its staff to be off today to remember all who have worn the uniform of our armed forces.

On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, the fighting of World War I ended in 1918. Because of the conclusion of “the War to end all Wars,” November 11th became a universally recognized day of celebration.

“As we approach Veterans Day, we take pride in recognizing the 30 members of our MCHD team who are veterans,” said Dr. Kevin Michaels, who retired as a colonel in the U.S. Army. “These individuals not only served our country with honor but have also continued their commitment to service through their work in public health.

“Their dedication to protecting and improving the health of our community reflects the same spirit of service that guided them in uniform. We thank each of them for their courage, professionalism, and ongoing contributions to the mission of the Mobile County Health Department.”

Including Dr. Michaels, our veterans include:

• Air Force – Tara Mosley, Kelvin Nobles, Sim Oakley, Adam Raymond, Tiesha Taylor
• Army – Larry Boykin, TaMichael Brand, Michael Dawson, Aisha Garmon, Barbara Gibbs, Curtis Graves, Marissa Gray, Lawrence Hicks, Raymond Johnson, Eddie Jones, Tanjanika Kimbrough, Daniel Lee, Siobhan Moore, Michael Seback, Tammy Zan
• Marine Corps – Gwendolyn Jones, Dr. Derrick Scott,
• Navy -- Lawrence Battiste, Edward Duncan, Edward Franklin, Lori Stevens, Erwin Taylor, Ernest Scott, Dr. Stephanie Woods-Crawford.

We also wish to thank their families who remained at home. They understood our veterans left to not only protect our country but our way of life.

We would like to close with this quote from Abraham Lincoln:
“Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.”

As part of the Downtown Street Optimization project, the City of Mobile will convert the majority of Saints Anthony Street from one-way to two-way traffic overnight on Wednesday. This includes the section adjacent to the Keeler Memorial Building.

The following morning on Thursday, motorists can expect the new two-way street configuration between Broad and Royal streets. After the conversion, this section of Saint Anthony Street will accommodate east and westbound traffic, and both sides will have marked, on-street parking. Please note that the block of Saint Anthony Street between Royal and Water streets will remain one-way.

You can find more information about the project at cityofmobile.org/downtown-street-optimization/.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear — it’s choosing to move forward despite it. Whether you’re navigating personal challenges or supporting someone else, you’ll find encouragement to embrace uncertainty and discover strength on the other side of fear.

In May, the mental well-being platform called CredibleMind became available to Alabama residents. It is being offered thanks to a partnership with the Alabama Department of Public Health, Alabama Department of Mental Health, Jefferson County Department of Health, and Mobile County Health Department.

Dr. Kevin Michaels, Health Officer for Mobile County, said dealing with fear is exactly the type of situation where the app can be useful.
