Below is a text conversation between a potential client and a massage therapist that I know. The general public does not understand what we go through on a daily basis sometimes. But we have to constantly fight against the sexual stigma in massage therapy. So just to enlighten you there are several trigger words that when we read them or hear them, we immediately think that this person is wanting something more than just massage therapy. The main trigger phrase is “full body massage“. We know this, as professionals, that this just means a full body massage therapy session. But to those people who are seeking other illegal and illicit services, it means something completely different. So when people start asking for a full body massage or they’re really vague about what they’re looking for, we start seeing red flags. For instance, I had a potential client text me and asked me what types of massages I did and I just had a feeling about this person whom I’d never spoken to, ever and I just asked them to tell me what they were looking for and I would let them know if I did that or not. He literally came out and blatantly asked if I massage pen*ses. I texted him back and told him that I did not, but I could give him the phone number of someone who did but he would have to call because they don’t text. To that, I gave him the nonemergency dispatch number for the local police department. Never heard from him again. The whole point of this post is this potential client in this text conversation seemed to be really upset and calling out this therapist as being rude when in reality, she’s just trying to protect herself. If self preservation and self-defense comes across this rude, I really don’t care because when it comes down to it, I will always defend myself against anyone.
