The USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute joined students on the University of South Alabama campus to host the Great American Smokeout, an annual event aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of to***co use and its direct link to lung cancer. Through interactive education, resources, and supportive conversations, MCI experts encouraged students to consider the long-term health risks associated with smoking and va**ng while offering tools to help them quit. The event served as an important reminder that choosing a smoke-free lifestyle today can significantly reduce the risk of lung cancer and lead to a healthier future.

During her annual follow-up at the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, breast cancer survivor Barbara Peek delivered boxes of snacks and drinks to the infusion suite — donations collected through a food drive she started at Andalusia Elementary, where she teaches.

She launched the project to teach her students about compassion and giving back. Their generosity will bring comfort to patients receiving treatment, and we are truly grateful.

Thank you to Doris and Eddy Moody from the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation for stopped by the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute to donate 46 holiday bags to comfort the gynecological oncology patients for the upcoming holiday season. The bags were full of support items such as knitted hats, socks, hand cream, tea, ginger chews, hot chocolate, and more along with information and resources for support groups and peer mentorship programs for patients.
