Talking to Yourself Out Loud
Before you laugh, hear me out.
Externalizing your thoughts, actually saying them out loud rather than just cycling them in your head, has been shown to reduce activation in the amygdala and increase cognitive control. In other words, it helps your thinking brain get back in the driver's seat. Talk to yourself as you would a dear friend.
Talking to yourself is not a sign that something is wrong. It is a regulatory strategy. Healers, therapists, coaches, and teachers have known this intuitively for a long time. Now neuroscience agrees.

Sound baths are not just relaxing. They are neurologically active.
Rhythmic sound has been shown to guide brainwaves into alpha and theta states, the same states your brain enters during deep meditation. Research also links sound-based practices to measurable reductions in cortisol, your primary stress hormone.
When you lie in a sound bath and feel something shift, that is not your imagination. That is your nervous system responding to an ancient form of medicine that science is finally catching up with.

Raise your hand if someone has ever called your healing practices "woo-woo."
Here is what the research actually says:
Humming activates the vagus nerve and reduces stress responses. Sound baths shift brainwaves the same way meditation does and lower cortisol. Talking out loud decreases amygdala activity and improves mental clarity. Journaling and processing your feelings rewires emotional regulation at the neurological level. Sending compassion and attention to pain reduces its perception in the brain and calms the nervous system.
Ancient wisdom. Modern science. Same result.
Your healing is not "out there." It is just ahead of the conversation.

It might look a little silly. It might feel even sillier. But humming is one of the most direct ways to activate your vagus nerve, shift your nervous system into parasympathetic mode, and improve heart rate variability.
Your body does not need you to have it all figured out. Sometimes it just needs you to hum.
