Learn and Play Activity Thursday: Thankful Turkey 🧡🤎🦃 This week’s activity is a Thankful Turkey DIY project. This is a fun meaningful way to help children explore gratitude while practicing communication and social-emotional skills. For this activity, create a simple turkey with colorful construction paper. The feathers should be separate from the turkey, and blank with enough space to write. Encourage your child to share something they like or appreciate, this could be their favorite food, toy, person, or activity. The child can write their answer or have their parent or caregiver assist. Next add the completed feathers to the turkey. This interactive approach helps children express themselves in a low pressure supportive way. Whether they communicate using words, pictures, or gestures every child gets a chance to contribute and feel proud of their turkey. This activity can help target expressive communication, emotion recognition, and turn taking!

L.I.F.E. would like to share CalLinks-First Steps Together as a resources for our clients, families, and our community. Please read about what services are provided and reach out if it can benefit you or someone you know in need. 🧩🧩 CalLinks provides free support for families with young children with autism. The program helps parents whose children were recently diagnosed, are being evaluated, or showing early signs of autism. Services include compassionate case management, peer mentorship from trained parents, educational workshops, and a lending library of sensory toys and communication devices. The program focuses on personalized, culturally sensitive support and connecting families with community resources, offering a safe space to learn, share, and grow together. 💚🧩

Parent/Caregiver Tip 🦃🍂 As the holidays approach, try creating a simple visual schedule for holidays like Thanksgiving,where there may be a lot of transitions, and social interactions with others. By using pictures or icons you can show your child what to expect for the day. You can help ease anxiety surrounding travel, ✈️mealtime, 🍴breaks, 💙and fun activities 🤩that may be new or seem overwhelming. This can help reduce anxiety ✔️ Increase predictability ✔️ and support smoother transitions during busy days such as holidays. 🧩💚

Learn and Play Activity Thursday: Fall Sensory Bag. 🍁🍂✨ Celebrate fall this week by creating a sensory bag with all the sights and feels of autumn! You’ll need: 1. A zip-seal bag (gallon size works best) 2. Clear Hair Gel or Water Beads (for Texture) 3. Fall-Themed-Items like: Mini Acorns, Small Pinecones, Orange/Yellow Pom-Poms, Plastic Pumpkins, or Sequins. Next Seal the bag tightly. Now you can let your child squish, press, and move the items around. They can name what they find and see! 🍂Parent/Caregiver Tip: Prepare for Sensory Changes this Fall/Winter. ✅ 🧣🧤 As the weather cools and routines shift, children on the spectrum may feel extra sensitive to new clothing textures and heavier clothing items such as jackets, scarfs, and boots. To help ease into this transition gradually help your child try on their winter and fall clothing at home. 🏡Predictable exposure supports comfort and self regulation. 💙🧩

Motivational Monday! 🏀⛹️‍♂️⛹️‍♂️🧩🧩 Anthony Ianni was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum at the age of four. He experienced discrimination and was told he would never achieve much. But Anthony stayed determined and with hard work and dedication, Anthony reached his goal of becoming the first Division I college basketball player on the ASD spectrum. 💪💙 He now uses his story to inspire others to break barriers and believe in themselves. ✨Anthony is just one great example of how much those in the neurodivergent community can accomplish!
