Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care

Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care We Bring You Refuge. The hospice team works to make the patient comfortable while relieving their symptoms and pain for the entire length of the illness.

When given the news of a life-limiting illness, we have the choice of continuing to live with dignity, while remaining pain and symptom free. We are able to achieve this in the comfort of our own home (or, indeed, anywhere else that we call home) surrounded by those we love, those who mean the most to us. When medical care cannot offer a cure, hospice provides care, comfort and support for persons with life-limiting conditions as well as their families. At Oasis Hospice, we believe in affirming life and exist as a refuge for our patients and their families. We aim to improve the quality of life for our patients as they deal with life-limiting illnesses.

"It's not about death. It's about life, and living it as fully as you can."

That's our philosophy of care. And it's exactly what we shared with the clinical team at Advocate Trinity Hospital.

Hospice is a conversation worth having before the crisis hits. If you have questions about what hospice care looks like for your loved one or patient β€” we're ready to talk.

On this episode, I sit down with Sade Bello, Co-Founder and Chief Executive of Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care and House of Goshen, to explore what it means to answer a callingβ€”not just pursue a career.

Sade shares her journey from working in hospice administration to co-founding a faith-based ministry that now serves families across the Chicago Southland. From a modest four-bedroom vision to a 14-bedroom state-of-the-art inpatient facility in Flossmoor, Illinois, this is a story of faith, perseverance, and the conviction that hospice care should be about dignity, compassion, and living with intention.

"God doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called."

"God doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called."

Sade Bello didn't have clinical training when she started in hospice. She wasn't a nurse or a social worker. But over nearly 15 years, she's built one of the most respected hospice organizations in the Chicago Southlandβ€”rooted in faith, dignity, and a relentless commitment to doing right by families.

In this clip from Episode 2 of The Oasis: On Life and Living, Sade addresses one of the biggest misconceptions about hospice care: "Hospice is not about dying. It's about living. It's how you live the days you have left."

Some people have heard of hospice, but fewer know about palliative care.

Palliative care is specialized support focused on improving quality of life for anyone living with a serious illness β€” regardless of prognosis. You don't have to be at end of life to benefit from it.

We were out in the community this week sharing exactly that. Because the more people understand their options, the better the decisions they can make for their families.

Questions? We're here.

"There is no other agency in the state of Illinois like this.." ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lori's family needed care for two generations at once. What she found at Oasis gave her something she didn't expect β€” peace of mind.

Families tell us it was the best decision they'd made in a long time. Lori's story is one of many.

If you're ready to talk, we're ready to listen.

"There is no other agency in the state of Illinois like this..."

One individual came to us navigating one of the hardest seasons a family can face β€” caring for both her 85-year-old mother and her grandmother. What she found at Oasis wasn't just care. It was relief.

Families tell us all the time: calling us was the best decision they'd made in a long time.

If you're in that season right now, we'd love to talk.

A lot of families think hospice is only covered for the last few days of life.

Medicare actually covers hospice care for as long as a physician certifies that a life-limiting illness is present β€” with no set end date.

The earlier a family calls, the more of that benefit they actually get to use.

Today, Oasis Hospice & Palliative Care joined the Southland Ministerial Health Network for an afternoon of conversation, connection, and community.

Our CEO Hakeem Bello presented on the four levels of hospice care and introduced House of Goshen β€” our inpatient facility in Flossmoor built to serve families who need a higher level of care.

But the deeper conversation was about access. Black and brown communities in the Chicago Southland are historically underserved when it comes to end-of-life care. Families are navigating terminal diagnoses without the information, the resources, or the advocates they deserve.

Faith communities are often the first place those families turn. That's exactly why rooms like today's matter to us.

We're committed to showing up β€” and to making sure hospice care is understood, accessible, and trusted across every community we serve.

Only 1 in 3 Americans who qualify for hospice care ever enroll.
Of those who do, the majority wait until the final week of life.

The research on early enrollment is consistent: better pain management, fewer emergency hospitalizations, more time with loved ones, improved quality of life. The barrier is almost never medical. It's awareness.

That's why we keep talking about it.

Before the first patient. There was a vision.

House of Goshen didn't happen overnight β€” it started with a plot of land in Flossmoor, a dream, and the conviction that families in the Chicago Southland deserved somewhere to turn in their time of need.

We're sharing that moment today.
