Patricia A. "Patti" Gates

Patricia A. “Patti” Gates, age 88, of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois.

Patti was born on March 14, 1937, in Moline, Illinois, to Carl and Daisy (Moon) Moeller. On November 18, 1955, she married the love of her life, George Gates. Together they shared many years of marriage until his passing on November 6, 2005.

A woman of quiet faith, Patti was a longtime member of the former Moline Gospel Temple. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading, tending to her beloved rose gardens, and, most of all, spending time with her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than her grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply. Patti was blessed with twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Patti is lovingly remembered by her children: David (Roni) Gates of Port Byron, Janet (Tim) Kotaska of Moline, and Darren (Brandi) Gates of Milan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; her brothers, Jerry Moeller and Larry Moeller; her half-brother, Russ Newham; and her half-sister, Bunny Vroman.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on her memory page at www.wendtfuneralhome.com.

Norman Goodman

Norman Goodman, 64, of Rock Island, IL, passed away on December 3, 2025, peacefully in bed, at home in Rock Island, IL.

Norm was a loyal and loving father of two children, Amber (Michael) Sullivan and Colin (Jessica) Goodman. He wore his “Papa” title proudly, leaving behind five grandchildren - Mason, Jonathan, Juno, Charlotte, and Maynard. He cherished every opportunity to spoil them - loading them up with Mountain Dew, snacks, and laughter - always sending them home sugared-up and grinning. Many of his nieces, nephews, and children's friends revered him as a father figure. All will miss him dearly.

Norm was also a devoted husband to Karen Goodman. Though life’s challenges ultimately led them down separate paths, the love and respect he held for who she was never faded. Married for over twenty years, they built a life marked by partnership, perseverance, and the joy of raising their two children together. Their shared history remained an important and cherished piece of his heart.

In life, Norm enjoyed video gaming, reading, and nearly every genre of theatrical entertainment. Horror reigned supreme as his favorite. Stepping into Norm's home would have you wondering if it was Halloween today, every day of the year. Deeply introverted and often keeping to himself, he was also stubborn in the way only those who care fiercely can be. A skilled auto mechanic by trade, he was always willing to help others - often giving the shirt off his back and refusing any payment in return.

For those fortunate enough to be part of his world, Norm was kind, helpful, and profoundly loving. He was also loyal to a fault, and his crude, dark sense of humor - paired with his quick wit - made him unforgettable. He could make people laugh in ways few others could, even in life’s hardest moments.

Norm did not wish to have a service or formal remembrance; he wanted to be remembered as he was in life. He will be cremated, as we cannot enact his true request to be dismembered and scattered around the neighborhood - a testament to his unique and irreverent humor. Norm did not fear death; he is at peace now. Above all, he would want people to share funny memories and not dwell on the end of his life.

"Go then, there are other worlds than these" Stephen King - The Gunslinger

We love you, Dad. You will be deeply and severely missed.

Family and friends are invited to share memories, and funny stories. We are talking about Norm here so keep that in mind, and feel free to say whatever comes to mind. Nevermind flowery language, get raw on the Memory Page at wendtfuneralhome.com.

Our Story

The Wendt family has been in the funeral business for six generations. They began in 1866 with J. Robert Earler, who came to Illinois from Germany around 1853. As an established cabinetmaker, he was called upon to provide wooden caskets for area farmers. When a person passed away in those days, the funeral was usually conducted in the home of the deceased, and the burial was in a plot on the family farm. Shortly after the Civil War, Mr. Earler opened a funeral parlor in Port Byron, IL, and Earler's son-in-law, August H. Wendt, took over the business from 1881 to 1920. At that time, Earl and Robert, the sons of August Wendt, ran the business until 1945. The current location of Wendt Funeral Home, a large Queen Anne Victorian house built in Moline in 1902, was purchased by Earl and Robert Wendt in 1929. Earl Wendt II handled the business with his brother, Richard, from 1945 until Earl's death in 1967. Then Earl III, along with his uncle, ran the home until Richard's retirement in 1985. Earl 'Buck' Wendt III now owns the funeral home, and operates it with his son, Earl Wendt IV, who joined him in 1977 and became a licensed director in 1983. Through the many generations, the Wendt family has always and will continue to provide the highest level of compassion, integrity and service to our families within our communities.
