It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We had a surprise elf stop by to decorate this weekend and the office looks great!🎄
As we approach the holidays next week, I wanted to post our holiday hours. Several of our staff members will be taking some time off to spend with family during the next 2 weeks, so while there are fewer total appointments, we are still open every day minus Christmas day and New Year’s day. Remember to check out our self scheduling for sick visits!

December 24th - open 8-12 for sick visits only
December 25th - closed
December 26th - normal hours 8-5
December 31st - normal hours 8-5
January 1st - closed
January 2nd normal hours 8-5

ACIP has recommended vaccinating during pregnancy with inactivated influenza vaccine since 1997. Studies have shown that pregnant people are at increased risk for complications, hospitalization, and even death from influenza because of the increased physiologic strain of pregnancy on their heart, lungs, and immune system. Vaccination can occur in any trimester, including the first.

Infants younger than 6 months old are at high risk of influenza-related complications, but influenza vaccine is not recommended for them because the immune response to influenza vaccination is limited before 6 months of age. Vaccinating during pregnancy provides maternal antibodies to the fetus which helps protect infants against influenza during the first 6 months of life until they can get vaccinated at age 6 months. Vaccinating pregnant people protects them, their unborn babies, and their babies after birth.

You’ll find this answer, as well as other influenza vaccine Q&As, here: www.immunize.org/ask-experts/topic/influenza.

Cold and flu season is officially here, just in time for the holidays. What does a pediatrician mom keep at home for taking care of her own sick kids? Here you gave it…saline, honey, ibuprofen/tylenol, soup and some popsicles. Over the counter cough/cold meds are expensive, ineffective and potentially dangerous for children. Let their bodies fight the virus and if worried, give us a call!

Another disappointing day as a pediatrician, watching an unqualified panel make decisions that affect our children’s health. The choice made today by ACIP to recommend not to vaccinate newborns for hepatitis B further confuses families and puts innocent lives at risk. Here is the truth about Hepatitis B vaccination, specifically outlining the risk of delaying vaccination.
