It takes a team of caring people to keep a hospital running, and at Cox Monett, our volunteers lead the way.

From our dedicated Auxiliary members to our thoughtful advisory board and compassionate chaplains, each of you brings something special to our halls. Whether you are offering a warm smile, a listening ear, a helping hand, or guidance behind the scenes, you make a difference in ways big and small.

In 2025, the Auxiliary gave back in a big way, donating $36,700 to support programs like CARDIAC Kids, Dining for Diabetes, and scholarships for employees and students pursuing careers in health care. Because of you, we are not just caring for patients today, we are investing in healthier tomorrows for generations to come.

You show up with kindness. You lead with compassion. And you remind us that care goes far beyond medicine.

We could not do this without you, and honestly, we would not want to. 💙

On her sixth birthday, Emma had an idea that became something much bigger than a closet.

From a simple start, Emma’s Closet at Cox Monett has grown into a space filled with comfort, distraction, and care for children who are hospitalized or in need of something to brighten their time. Toys, activities, and small comforts that make hard moments a little easier.

Then and now, the mission hasn’t changed. What has changed is the reach, the impact, and the number of children and families who have felt a little less alone because of it.

Seeing these photos side by side from 2016 to 2026, it is hard not to feel it. Time is a thief, but it is also a witness to something meaningful being built, one act of kindness at a time.

Strong communities don’t happen by chance. They’re built when people come together with a shared purpose.

Today at the Monett Area YMCA, community leaders gathered to explore new partnership opportunities and ways to better serve the individuals who call this place home. It was a meaningful conversation focused on collaboration and what’s possible when we align around a common goal.

When we work together, we can accomplish so much more.

As storms move through our area, we know they can bring worry with them. Take a look at ways to manage stress during severe weather season, because caring for our community means supporting both physical and emotional well-being. ⬇️

Spring weather is finally here — bringing more daylight, time outdoors, beautiful blooms and storms.

For many people, those storms bring more than rain and wind. They can bring anxiety. If a tornado siren makes your heart race or you find yourself constantly checking the forecast, you’re not alone.

Our latest blog explores storm anxiety, why it’s so common here in the Ozarks, and practical ways to cope — for both adults and kids.

James “Jim” Roy, a longtime respiratory therapist at Cox Monett, is stepping into retirement, leaving behind a legacy defined by compassion, curiosity, and a deep commitment to his patients and colleagues.

Jim’s journey into health care began modestly as an orderly at a hospital in New England. There, he discovered respiratory therapy — a field that captured his attention for its versatility and hands-on impact throughout the hospital.

“Becoming a respiratory therapist just seemed cool to me,” Jim said. “They were involved in so many different areas, and that diversity drew me in. Over time, I realized my true passion wasn’t just in performing the work, but in teaching it — sharing my knowledge and experience with others.”

Throughout his career, it was the human connections that left the deepest mark. One memory in particular stands out: spending time with a patient nearing the end of their battle.

“I’ll never forget the conversations I had with a patient who was dying of cancer,” Jim shared. “His courage left a lasting impression on me. Moments like those stay with you and remind you what this work is truly about.”

Jim also witnessed firsthand the remarkable evolution of respiratory care, watching it progress from hands-on, improvised methods to today’s advanced, efficient technologies.

“When I started, we used glass blood gas syringes and sharpened needles by hand,” Jim said. “We would add buckets of ice to cool mist tents and even use powder to prevent ventilator bellows from sticking. In my opinion, one of the biggest advancements has been the introduction of pre-assembled, disposable supplies—they’ve made a tremendous difference for both patients and staff.”

While tools and technology have transformed, Jim emphasizes that people have always remained at the heart of his experience.

“Working with this team has been incredible,” he said. “There were days that inspired me, and days that challenged me, but I could always count on genuine care and compassion for our patients. That’s something I’ll always treasure.”

Looking ahead to retirement, Jim is eager to exchange hospital routines for creative, hands-on projects at home.

“I have a few things on my list, like painting the front door and hanging new shutters,” Jim said with a smile. “But I’m especially excited to learn new skills, such as carving wooden marionettes, designing puppets, and even delving into animatronics. It’s a whole new kind of challenge.”

Though Jim may be stepping away from the hospital, his impact will live on in the patients he cared for, the colleagues he inspired, and the many people who will carry forward the lessons he so passionately shared.

Medical Surgical staff on both day and night shifts celebrated Easter this week with potluck gatherings, making time to come together and enjoy a shared meal.

It is always a meaningful moment when our teams can pause, sit down together, and enjoy time with one another outside of the fast pace of patient care. These gatherings remind us how strong our connections are and how much we value the people we work beside.

Easter is a season of renewal and hope. Those same values shine through each day in the compassionate care our staff provides to patients and one another.

We hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend!

As March comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the moments that truly mattered.

This month brought so much, new beginnings, advancements in technology, meaningful connections, and the everyday acts of care that make our work so special. We welcomed new faces, celebrated milestones, and continued to show up for our community in ways big and small.

But March also had somber moments that reminded us how precious life is, and how the stories of those who have touched our lives shape the compassion we carry forward each day.

As we step into spring, we hold both gratitude and remembrance, honoring the lives we’ve touched and the ones who have touched us. With every season, our purpose remains the same: to care deeply, serve faithfully, and stand beside our community when it matters most.

Cox Monett: Growing for you

Construction of the new hospital in Monett, Missouri, began in 2019 and will take approximately two years to complete. The new $42 million-dollar, 75,000-square-foot hospital will replace the current facility and will make quality health care even more readily available to the community.

Monett's hospital dates back to 1928, when local physician and World War I veteran Dr. William West opened an 18-bed hospital in Monett. Dr. West dedicated the majority of his life to medicine and the community. He helped establish the American Legion chapter in Monett and was a Mason and a member of About Ben Adhem Shrine at Springfield. When he decided to retire, he donated the hospital to the Vincentian Sisters of Charity so it could continue serving the community. The hospital operated as St. Vincent's until it was acquired by CoxHealth in 1993 and the name changed to Cox Monett. The current building was built in 1953 and has gone through numerous renovations over the years, including the addition of a physician's clinic in 1974 and a large renovation project in 1998 that included a new emergency department. The largest renovation and expansion project thus far happened in 2001 and included reinstating obstetric services and expanding and modernizing the medical-surgical unit. While the hospital has served the community well for many years, an updated and expanded facility will help us continue providing vital health care services with a focus on quality and innovation, as well as helping attract more providers to Monett. The new hospital is a key part of our mission to ensure rural communities have access to the health care they need, especially in critical, time-sensitive situations.
