Five Years Later: Remembering the Move

On this , we look back at how we moved an entire hospital, which is still hard to believe.

That morning was filled with both anxiety and excitement after years of preparation. Teams had carefully planned every hallway and route, overcoming a pandemic and even 179 inches of rain during construction. Nonetheless, everyone arrived ready to take on the challenge.

Throughout the entire process, our patients always came first. Timelines paused when care was needed. We prayed before closing the old hospital and again before opening the new one. Then Cox Air Care lifted off from the new helipad and just like that, we were home.

What we carried that day was more than equipment. It was a promise.

Five years later, that same spirit still fills these halls, guiding every patient we care for and every challenge we face. It is a legacy built on teamwork, trust, and a community that believes in what is possible.

The Met in Monett - Dining for Diabetes fundraiser was a memorable evening that celebrated generosity, community, and compassion. Presented by the CoxHealth Foundation, the annual event was held Friday, Jan. 30, at the Monett Park Casino and brought together supporters from across the region to benefit diabetes patients at Cox Monett.

Guests enjoyed an exceptional dining experience, a silent auction, and a unique artistic touch throughout the evening. A talented artist sketched portraits of attendees, adding a personal and memorable element that reflected the creativity and care behind every detail of the event.

More than a night of celebration, Met in Monett served a meaningful purpose. Funds raised will help support diabetes patients who rely on Cox Monett for care, education, and resources, ensuring they receive the support they need to manage their health and improve their quality of life.

The success of this event was made possible by the dedication and generosity of so many. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who planned the event, participated, and sponsored this special evening. Your support makes a lasting difference for our patients, their families, and our community.

A closer look at our teams training today on a new piece of equipment in the cardiac rehabilitation department. An upgraded stress testing system is being installed to better support patient care and strengthen how clinical information flows through our upcoming transition to a new electronic health record system across CoxHealth.

We’re grateful to the Cox Monett Auxiliary for making this advancement possible and for their ongoing support of our patients, teams, and community. This investment moves heart care forward, bringing together advanced technology and connected systems to better support every patient.

Discover additional information regarding tests for diagnosing heart issues in the comments.

As a significant winter weather event approaches, teams across Cox Monett are getting ready long before the first snowflake falls. From stocking food (yes, including plenty of bread 😊), linens, blankets, towels, and pillows for patients and colleagues who may need to stay, to engineering preparing vehicles and equipment, every detail matters.

It takes all of us working together to ensure our hospital remains a safe, welcoming place no matter what the weather brings. We’re grateful for the dedication, flexibility, and teamwork happening behind the scenes to care for our community.

And if you must go outside, check the comments for winter safety tips and fall prevention guidance from our CoxHealth experts.

On this , we're jumping on the social media trend and taking a walk down memory lane and reminiscing with some nostalgic photos. From staff celebrations to community events, these snapshots show how much has changed and how much has stayed the same. 𝗔 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲-𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗔 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲

On a brisk Friday afternoon in January, Orra David “OD” Cope entered the Medical-Surgical North hallway at Cox Monett for a moment that he and those around him would cherish forever.

After three weeks in the hospital, fighting an illness that left him uncertain about his survival, OD was finishing his last physical therapy session. As he stepped out, the hallway erupted in applause. Staff, family, and caregivers filled the corridor, some in tears; many were overwhelmed with emotion, celebrating a milestone that once seemed unattainable.

“I just can’t believe it,” OD expressed, tears forming in his eyes. “This is the most amazing hospital I have ever been in.”

OD doesn’t recall much from the initial days of his hospitalization. He was so unwell that he frequently questioned whether he would live or die.

“Then, all of a sudden, it felt like a light switched on, and I was able to get out of bed,” he remembered. “I tried, but my body wasn’t quite prepared, and I suppose I didn’t realize how weak I had become.”

As he surveyed the loved ones who had gathered to support him, some having traveled great distances for this moment, OD’s voice quivered with appreciation.

“I can’t believe my loved ones are here, and some even traveled many miles to see me for this occasion. I just can’t believe it. I can’t thank everyone enough for what you have done for me.”

At the end of the hall, OD paused to shake hands with Albert from Environmental Services and William Mahoney, senior vice president of the CoxHealth Community Hospital Group, thanking them for care that was not only exceptional but deeply personal, care that meant more than words could express.

For OD, this represented a pivotal moment, a time when perseverance, compassion, and dedicated care converged to turn the impossible into reality. For all who stood in that hallway and cheered for him, it served as a powerful reminder of what rural health care can signify when it is driven by skill, heart, and human connection.

High-quality care close to home matters, especially when it comes to cancer prevention.

At Cox Monett, our surgeons perform colonoscopies that help catch colon cancer early and save lives in our community. This routine screening can prevent cancer before it starts.

This CoxHealth blog explains when to get screened and what you can expect. ⬇️

Today, we had a special helping hand from a familiar face. Kortni, a nurse practitioner at Cox Barton County Hospital, stepped in to care for patients at Cox Monett, something she has graciously done before when our rural hospitals need extra support.

In rural communities, health care is more than a job. It is neighbors helping neighbors, even when that means crossing county lines to make sure patients are seen, supported, and cared for. Providers like Kortni are willing to go where they are needed most, and that flexibility makes a real difference for the people we serve.

Whether she is caring for patients in Lamar or Monett, Kortni brings the same compassion, skill, and heart to every bedside. Moments like this remind us that our hospitals may be miles apart, but our mission is shared.

Thank you to all the staff and providers who step in to help other hospitals when they are needed most.

Cox Monett: Growing for you

Construction of the new hospital in Monett, Missouri, began in 2019 and will take approximately two years to complete. The new $42 million-dollar, 75,000-square-foot hospital will replace the current facility and will make quality health care even more readily available to the community.

Monett's hospital dates back to 1928, when local physician and World War I veteran Dr. William West opened an 18-bed hospital in Monett. Dr. West dedicated the majority of his life to medicine and the community. He helped establish the American Legion chapter in Monett and was a Mason and a member of About Ben Adhem Shrine at Springfield. When he decided to retire, he donated the hospital to the Vincentian Sisters of Charity so it could continue serving the community. The hospital operated as St. Vincent's until it was acquired by CoxHealth in 1993 and the name changed to Cox Monett. The current building was built in 1953 and has gone through numerous renovations over the years, including the addition of a physician's clinic in 1974 and a large renovation project in 1998 that included a new emergency department. The largest renovation and expansion project thus far happened in 2001 and included reinstating obstetric services and expanding and modernizing the medical-surgical unit. While the hospital has served the community well for many years, an updated and expanded facility will help us continue providing vital health care services with a focus on quality and innovation, as well as helping attract more providers to Monett. The new hospital is a key part of our mission to ensure rural communities have access to the health care they need, especially in critical, time-sensitive situations.
