Two of our Health Occupations students had an incredible opportunity to shadow in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab)! 🫀

They were able to observe physicians as they performed procedures used to diagnose and treat cardiac and vascular conditions. From watching how the care team works together to seeing the technology used to evaluate heart health, it was an amazing hands-on learning experience.

Opportunities like this give our students a real look into the medical field and help them explore the many career paths within healthcare. We are so proud of them for taking advantage of this experience and continuing to learn more about caring for patients and saving lives! 👏

Today we reviewed for our upcoming phlebotomy exam with some friendly competition and it all came down to the LAST question… winner takes all! 👀🔥

The final question:
How many hours must a patient fast before a fasting glucose lab draw?

✅ Correct answer: 8–12 hours (minimum of 8 hours) water only!

In Health Occ 2 we’re officially getting deeper into EKGs and honestly… it’s kinda cool watching squiggly lines turn into actual rhythms 👀📈

Here’s how we break it down like future EKG techs:

1️⃣ Find the rate
2️⃣ Decide if the rhythm is regular or irregular
3️⃣ Check the P waves
4️⃣ Measure the PR interval
5️⃣ Measure the QRS complex
6️⃣ Identify the rhythm

We are step closer to reading rhythms like pros!

We love seeing our students explore the many paths in healthcare!

Our Health Occupations student Kylee recently had the opportunity to shadow her mom, Amanda Holloway, an ER nurse at Cox Monett Hospital.

Experiences like this give students a firsthand look at the fast-paced world of emergency nursing and help them grow in confidence as they explore their future careers. We’re proud of Kylee for taking this opportunity and grateful to Amanda and the ER team for welcoming her and supporting our students!

With so much love and excitement for my daughter, Ashley Terry, and at the same time a little sadness for myself, she has officially resigned as our Health Occupations Level I instructor to stay home with her babies.
As her mother, my heart is so proud and happy knowing her sweet kiddos get to have such a loving, dedicated mom home with them each day. There is no greater calling than motherhood, and she will pour her whole heart into it just like she does everything else.
But as her coworker, I will deeply miss her. Ashley has been an incredible nurse, an outstanding HO instructor, and such a positive influence on her students. She has made a difference in so many lives and has helped shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Now, this opens up an opportunity! If any of my former students who earned their degree as a Registered Nursing (or anyone you know) have a passion for the medical field, love caring for the elderly, and feel called to teach and inspire passionate students, please consider applying.

Our Health Occupations students had an amazing college tour at Missouri State University! 🎓🐻
We explored the dorm rooms and dining hall, but the highlight was getting an up-close look at the health science buildings—such an inspiring experience for our future healthcare professionals.

We were also lucky enough to celebrate CRNA Week in the best way possible! 🩺✨ Current CRNA students took time to work with our students and help them learn how to intubate patients prior to surgery, giving them valuable hands-on exposure to this incredible career path.
