RWJBH Oncology Support Program

RWJBH Oncology Support Program The RWJBarnabas Health Oncology Support Program is dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer.

The RWJBH Oncology Support Program provides support for the physical and emotional concerns of individuals affected by cancer. From diagnosis through treatment, recovery and survivorship, we provide members with support, education, hope and encouragement as a part of a community of others who are facing treatment and survivorship together. With programs running at both our Long Branch and Lakewood campuses, monthly groups include general and diagnosis-specific support groups, educational workshops, strength-building exercise classes, yoga, Qi-Gong, various opportunities for socialization and special lectures emphasizing wellness and the mind-body-spirit connection. All programs are free of charge to our patients and anyone affected by cancer, including family members and support people.

Juan, a CCT, left a lasting impression on a patient, so much so that she had to write about it. The patient nominated Juan for a Rose Award because he was the first person to attend to her on the unit and immediately settled her down. The patient wrote: "I was in a very bad state-of-mind and Juan was the first person I saw after the E.R. He saw to my clothing needs and assisted with getting me settled. Over the next two days, he helped me in the bathroom, saw to my comfort, all while taking the time to share stories of his life and asking about mine. I truly could not have survived my stay without your care, mentally, emotionally and physically. I can not thank you enough!"
The Rose Award is associated with feelings of love and gratitude that recognizes non-clinical staff who have provided extraordinary, compassionate, family centered care. Congratulations Juan!
