Graduate student Natasha Jordan-Nguyen applied for and was chosen to be a member of Spero Stuttering, Inc.'s 2025-2026 STEAR Cohort! Spero Stuttering, Inc.'s STEAR (STuttering Enrichment, Advocacy, and Research) Circle "is a graduate enrichment program dedicated to stuttering. Through six Zoom sessions, students engage in diverse learning activities, culminating in a $100 stipend upon completion."

Natasha had this to say about her experience, "I am incredibly grateful to have participated in the STEAR Circle, which provided an extension to the stuttering theory I have studied within the SLP graduate program at ULM. A highlight for me was Dr. Derek E. Daniels’ session regarding the intersection of identity and the internal and external perceptions of stuttering. Engaging directly with the lived experiences of the stuttering community has deepened my clinical perspective and reinforced my belief that true advocacy is rooted in mindful therapy and collaborative, involved goal-setting."

We are so proud of Natasha for taking this extra step to further her learning experience.

Our first STEAR Circle of the 2025-26 academic year is in the books, and we were so glad to meet our newest cohort!

With 16 graduate and doctoral students across 8 universities this year, we are excited for the impact we’ll make together on the future of speech therapy for people who stutter.

Looking forward to more meetings, more experiences, and more conversations this year!

My pediatric internship was truly the best and I loved every second spent at Lincoln Parish Early Education Center! I could not be more thankful for my supervisor, Mrs. Melissa Jackson, and my time with her! She taught me so much about the early education system and most of all, how to fully love and intentionally treat every client! I had the opportunity to apply my knowledge and continue to grow in areas of early language development, articulation, and augmentative and alternative communication! A big thank you to the most amazing, patient, and knowledge supervisor who taught me so much! I am beyond grateful for this experience and will miss seeing Mrs. Melissa and my sweet kiddos every day!!!!!

I have absolutely loved my time at J. A. Phillips Elementary with my amazing supervisors Ashley Vaughan and Haley Griffith! I have learned so much from them when it comes to the process of assessment and treatment in the areas of expressive & receptive language, speech sounds, AAC and stuttering within the school system! I gained more hands-on experience with administering assessments, individualized treatment, creating IEP goals and collaborating with teachers.

I cannot thank Ashley & Haley enough for their constant encouragement, patience and guidance they gave me throughout my time here. They have made such a positive impact on my experience in the school systems and a forever impact on my career as a future Speech Language Pathologist!

My pediatric internship at Minnie Ruffin Elementary and Neville High School was nothing short of amazing. What made it better was having Mrs. Rachel Andrews as my supervisor. She was so kind and patient and taught me so much. I like to ask tons of questions, and she had no problem answering every single one of them. I am thankful that I got to work with both elementary and high school students. Mrs. Rachel taught me how to be flexible with the crazy schedule and how to adapt to each child’s individual needs. I got to work with students that worked on fluency, expressive and receptive language, AAC, pragmatics, and speech sounds. I was able to increase my knowledge and confidence of treatment and assessment in those areas. Not only that, but I was able to form meaningful relationships with each of these students. It was awesome getting to know them and work with them every day. This was truly an amazing experience!

My pediatric internship at Melanie Massey Physical Therapy has been the absolute best experience! I have loved every second of it and learned so much in such a short time with my amazing supervisor, Allison Roy! I had the opportunity to grow in both assessment and treatment for articulation, receptive and expressive language, AAC, and fluency! Allison was always there to guide me and answer any questions I needed. I couldn’t have asked for a better placement or supervisor!

I enjoyed my internship placement at Franklin Parish Schools with Katelyn Guillot, where I received a warm welcome from students, faculty, staff, and the therapy team. During my time there, I gained experience treating a variety of disabilities and co-treating students alongside Occupational Therapy and the APE teacher. I also developed skills in administering and scoring assessments, formulating IEPs, writing goals, and collaborating with teachers.
My internship supervisor had a significant positive impact on my experience by consistently offering support, welcoming questions, and working collaboratively with me!

My pediatric school-based internship site was an incredible experience that helped me grow in confidence and clinical skill. Mrs. Amanda Beaubouef was supportive, knowledgeable, and always willing to teach. With her guidance, I learned how to plan and deliver effective therapy for articulation, language, and fluency across a wide range of students from elementary to high school in both individual and group settings. I gained hands-on experience, real-world problem-solving skills, and a much deeper understanding of how to connect with students and help them succeed. This internship truly strengthened my passion for speech-language pathology and helped me feel prepared for future clinical work!

💛♥️Natasha Jordan-Nguyen♥️💛

I had such a great experience at Ouachita Parish Schools working with Ms. Kateland Prince. When I was at Lenwil Elementary, I felt really welcomed by both the students and the staff. Getting to work with kids from pre-k all the way up to fifth grade gave me a lot of insight and hands-on experience with a wide range of ages and developmental stages, which really helped me grow as a pediatric therapist. Ms. Prince was incredibly supportive and always pushed the limits of my clinical decision-making skills. From evaluations, to group therapies, to IEPs, Ms. Prince guided me and challenged me to think through every aspect of every student and their needs. She also encouraged me to work with lots of compassion and care for the kids, and I was able to witness her kindness first hand. I’m so thankful to the students and staff at Lenwil for their openness and the meaningful relationships we built. I’ll definitely miss the children, and I really appreciate Ms. Prince’s mentorship — her feedback and guidance made a big difference in my growth as a clinician.

After finishing my pediatric internship, I’m walking away with a full heart and a deeper understanding of the school system!
I’m incredibly thankful for my supervisor, Mrs. Nicole Chism, whose mentorship and expertise have shaped me in so many ways. Through her guidance, I gained hands-on experience providing therapy for speech sound disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, and stuttering. I also strengthened my confidence in administering assessments for students ranging from Pre-K to high school.

The relationships I built with my students, along with the teachers and administration at Indian Bayou Elementary, have been so meaningful and instrumental in preparing me for my future career as a speech-language pathologist. I’m beyond grateful for this experience and all the growth it brought!
