Tomee Smith has been named the Marilyn S. Merkle Community Caregiver for the month of October. She was nominated by Mr. Alan Barron for her exceptional care of the residents at Brookdale of Monroe.
One of five children, Tomee graduated from Monroe High School in 2020. In 2022, she began her work at Brookdale where she is known for being a ray of sunshine and brightening the lives of the residents. The staff, residents, and visitors there admire her for her warm heart and caring ways.
In his nomination, Mr. Barron described her dedication and selflessness in providing care to the residents at Brookdale. She regularly goes above and beyond, often working 16-hour shifts. Even during her busy hours there, she makes time there to learn about each resident and to get to know them individually. She takes note of their personal needs and preferences and is known for surprising the residents in her care with little gifts or treats. She is also sure to make the most of special occasions with them.
Tomeeās heart is filled with a deep love and respect for the residents in her care. She inspires those around her with her kindness. Notably, Tomee honors the memory of those who have passed on, even visiting and decorating the gravesites of residents she has served.
