While you're celebrating, don’t forget — chocolate and pets do NOT mix! 🍫🚫🐶Chocolate can be toxic to dogs (and cats!), especially dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Make sure all Easter baskets, candy, and goodies stay safely out of paw’s reach.

Easter Pet Safety Tips:
🐾 Keep chocolate and candy away from pets
🐾 Watch out for xylitol in sugar-free treats
🐾 Avoid plastic grass (it can cause intestinal blockages!)
🐾 Keep lilies away from cats — they are highly toxic

🚨 Rabies Alert in Walton County 🚨

Walton County officials have confirmed a rabid cat in the area. Rabies is a 100% fatal virus once symptoms appear, so prevention and caution are extremely important for both people and pets.

Please take the following precautions:

• Make sure your pets are current on their rabies vaccinations
• Avoid contact with wildlife or unfamiliar animals
• Do not approach animals that appear sick, aggressive, or unusually friendly
• Keep pets supervised outdoors and avoid letting them roam
• Report suspicious wildlife to local animal control
• If you or your pet are bitten or scratched by a wild or unknown animal, seek medical or veterinary care immediately

Rabies can affect many animals including cats, dogs, raccoons, skunks, foxes, and bats. Vaccinating your pets is the best way to protect them—and your family.

Dr. Hernandez and Dr. Lewis are out of the clinic for a few days attending a continuing education conference! 📚🐾

They’re busy learning the latest in veterinary medicine and gathering new ideas so we can keep providing the best possible care for our amazing patients. We can’t wait to bring all this new knowledge back to Monroe Animal Care Hospital and put it to good use!
