👍🏻 and 🎙️ if you want Animal Cruelty Task Forces in North Carolina. Animal cruelty is a public safety issue. 💯 People who hurt animals often hurt kids, too. Congrats to Lee County for this effort.
HELPING ABUSED CHILDREN AND ADULTS BY REPORTING ANIMAL CRUELTY
Abusers of children, elders and vulnerable individuals won’t likely boast about or admit to their abusive behaviors. However, law enforcement studies have indicated that these abusive individuals often admit to…even brag about…their maltreatment and abuse of animals.
Perhaps these abusers don’t believe that animal abuse is a serious matter or, perhaps, they believe that their local law enforcement agencies have little interest in pursuing animal abusers. Whatever the reason, we need to pay attention to any and all admissions of animal cruelty.
Additionally, those working with young children should be alert to reports, from these children, about frequently “disappearing” pets and/or repeated animal deaths in their home.
While pets do wander off and many sadly die, and while animals do get injured from time to time, repeated instances of missing, deceased and/or injured pets could be an indication of existing abuse of family members and may serve as a warning of future violence.
It is critically important that community members report concerns regarding any type of abuse and recognize the link between animal cruelty and family violence.
“See something. Say something. Make the call.”
