Fall is full of sensory and learning opportunities! 🍂 Our Pediatric Therapy team loves using the season to build speech, motor, and sensory skills in fun, natural ways.

Here are a few therapy-inspired fall activities you can try at home:
🎨 Leaf rubbings – build fine motor and sensory skills
🍎 Apple tasting – explore textures and descriptive words
🗣️ Scavenger hunt – practice vocabulary like “red leaf,” “big pumpkin,” “soft scarf”
✋ Rake the leaves together – great for upper body strength and coordination!

Every child experiences the world through their senses—but some kids process that information differently. This is called sensory processing, and it plays a big role in how children learn, move, and interact.

When sensory processing works smoothly, kids can stay calm, focused, and ready to play or learn. But when it’s hard for their brains to organize what they feel, see, or hear, everyday tasks can feel overwhelming.

Here are a few signs of sensory processing challenges:
🎵 Covers ears during normal sounds
👕 Avoids certain clothing textures
🏃 Constantly moving or seeking deep pressure (crashing, jumping)
🍎 Very picky about food textures
✋ Struggles to stay focused or calm in busy environments
