After more than 40 years in health care, SSM Health Monroe Hospital and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Janesville President Jane Curran-Meuli, is retiring at the end of December.

Jane’s career journey from bedside nursing to executive leadership has been marked by compassion, innovation, and unwavering dedication.

She led our teams through challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and has always been a champion for safe, patient-centered care.

Dr. Mark Hovland was recognized earlier this week with the inaugural OAK (One of a Kind) Award for the exceptional care and leadership he brings to our Emergency Department!

Two staff shared compassionate stories that show why he’s deserving. Jaiden remembered a night when the ED saw double its usual patient volume. As the only provider on duty, Dr. Hovland stayed calm, compassionate, and hands on, and even jumped in to help with a difficult pediatric blood draw and supporting staff through a chaotic shift.

Nicole described a very different experience when Dr. Hovland took the time to sit with a family to guide them through an emotional conversation about end of life decisions, giving them clarity and kindness during an incredibly hard moment.

These moments reflect why the OAK Award was created to honor providers who exemplify teamwork, communication, professionalism, and exceptional service.

Congratulations to Dr. Hovland on being the first to receive this honor!

Marti Schriner, RN, AMB-BC, a registered nurse at our Freeport Clinic, was recognized yesterday for her exceptional clinical judgment, compassionate care, and courageous advocacy with a DAISY Award!

Her team shared two powerful examples of Marti stepping in during critical moments where she listened closely, acted decisively, and ultimately helped save two patients’ lives. Marti’s dedication truly reflects the heart of nursing, and her influence extends beyond individual moments to shape a team culture that values excellence, empathy, and continuous learning.

On Friday, our Inpatient team celebrated Marci McDermott, Clinical Partner II, for receiving a 2025 Mission in Motion Award! Marci is known for being everywhere you need her to be and for always being ready to step in and help, especially during the busiest or most critical moments. She goes above and beyond to ensure patients feel comfortable and supported, and she shows up each shift with a smile and a compassionate heart.

“I'm deeply grateful for this incredible award, and I'm thrilled to work alongside such a dedicated team,” shared Marci after receiving her Mission in Motion Award. “I'm passionate about delivering exceptional patient care, infused with kindness, compassion, and empathy. Every individual deserves outstanding care, regardless of their circumstances, and I strive to make a positive impact, even in the most challenging situations.”

We’re proud to share that Jason King, Security Supervisor at SSM Health Monroe Hospital, has been honored with the Sheriff’s Citizen Award during a Green County Board of Supervisors meeting by Green County Sheriff Cody Kanable!

Jason received this award for his quick and courageous actions during an incident in our Emergency Department. His assistance ensured the safety of Green County WI Sheriff's Office deputies, our staff, and patients when an individual in custody was receiving care.

The Citizen Service Award recognizes individuals who provide help without regard for personal welfare and make a positive impact on the outcome of critical situations. Jason exemplifies these values, and we are grateful for his dedication to safety and service.

Our Albany team recently came together to support the students at Albany Elementary School by organizing a snack drive! With 139 students and a growing need for classroom snacks, the team stepped up to make sure every child has what they need to stay energized and ready to learn.

On December 8, the team delivered donations to the school, and the gratitude we received was truly heartwarming. Mrs. Doescher from the School District of Albany shared: "Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. It is genuinely inspiring that individuals such as you strive to enhance this community for all. Thank you immensely for your kindness and compassionate support!"
