Senior Spotlight: ✨ Randi Moffatt✨

What are your future plans once you become an RDH?
I plan to get both my Arkansas and Louisiana license so I can have more options on where to work since I live on the state line in Arkansas. I’ve always worked full time but I won’t mind just working 3 days max in order to spend more time with my kids and family!

List 3 fun facts about you!
I have Tourette’s Syndrome. Which can explain some of my weird facial expressions I make!
I have a farm with goats, chickens and a miniature donkey!
I have been with my husband for almost 17 years and married to him for almost 12 years. We have two beautiful daughters!

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
Do it! I went back to school in my 30s and it’s the best, craziest decision I’ve made.

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
Honestly I thought I’d go to school and come home, but I’ve made some good friends and I love that! Being several years older I didn’t expect to have the friends I do but I’m so thankful for every single one!

What are your future plans once you become an RDH?
Becoming a Registered Dental Hygienist will allow me to give back through dentistry mission trips and return to Baton Rouge to serve the community at the very dental office where my journey in this profession first began as a dental hygiene assistant.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
Do it! God put this calling on your heart for a reason, so step into the purpose He has for you. Don’t get caught up comparing yourself to others who might be thinking about dental hygiene too—comparison steals your joy and distracts from the path He’s laid out just for you.

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
My favorite part of dental hygiene school is how this program and the people in it have become my home away from home.

What are your future plans once you become an RDH?
After I become an RDH, I want to work in my hometown Shreveport, Louisiana for about a year to get some experience. Then I’ll move to Houston, Texas to grow my career and take advantage of more opportunities.

1. I’m left-handed, but when it comes to dental hygiene, I’m all about that right-handed life
2. My favorite color is purple
3. My favorite food is anything with rice. I could eat it every day!

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
You should totally go for it! It definitely has its challenges, especially during school, but it’s so rewarding! One of the best parts is building relationships with your patients and seeing the positive impact you can make on their health and confidence over time.

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
My favorite part of dental hygiene school has been learning so much and seeing myself grow into the hygienist I want to be. Plus, I’ve made some amazing lifelong friends along the way, which has made the journey even better.

What are your future plans once you become an RDH?
I plan to find an office that I love & kick off my career! I am a Louisiana girl but would love to become licensed in more than one state. You never know what the future holds & where it will take you.

•I love spending time with my 3 amazing children!
•I am very artistic. I love to draw, paint, and play the piano.
•I love to go fishing!

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
3 words: “Go for it!” No matter the age or circumstance, it’s never too late to pursue a dream, especially if you’re passionate about it!

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
~My favorite part would be the friendships that have been made! Dental Hygiene school can be overwhelming & difficult, but being able to lean on each other makes it so much easier.
~Also, being able to apply everything that I’ve learned thus far has been so beneficial & rewarding in clinic. Seeing my patients happy & educating them on improving their oral health makes all the hard work absolutely worth it.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
Go for it! Some days will be tough, but with dedication, patience, and emotional support, you can achieve anything. The end results are well worth all the sacrifices.

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
My favorite part has been watching my skills develop while knowing I’m making a real impact on people’s health and confidence. I’ve also cherished the lifelong friendships I’ve formed during the program—relationships that have supported me academically and encouraged me to overcome any challenge with perseverance and faith.

I currently work at Southern Roots Dental in Monroe with Dr. Julie Simpson and Dr. Sarah Gregory, my biggest fans—I will be returning to treat patients as a Registered Dental Hygienist!

1. I have a minor in Dance 💃🏼! Contemporary or modern dance has my heart💚!
2. I played roller derby for the Roe City Rollers! I can skate backwards pretty fast and will beat anyone at the limbo!
3. My family is my world...I am the mother of two sons (both engaged!), Brodie (25) & Tristan (23), and am married to my best friend Donovan 🫶🏻

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
Do it! Patient care in the field of dentistry is beyond rewarding and fulfilling...be passionate and don’t give up on your dreams!

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
In the clinic, educating the patients while showing compassion makes my heart soar! I love to brighten a smile and make a difference in someone’s world 🌎!

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
Go for it, but make sure you are in the right mindset and have the time for it. For It can be a very difficult and time consuming program. None the less it is such a rewarding field, and if your heart is in it you’ll love it!

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
My classmates! Every single one of them is always there with a helping hand and words of encouragement. They have helped me get through even the hardest of days in this program.

What are your future plans once you become an RDH?
I plan to either commission back into the Air Force and work as an RDH or temp and do a lot of traveling.

1. I love to play golf with my husband.
2. I’m a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
3. My husband and I enjoy biking on nature trails and going to Houston Astros ballgames.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
You truly can do anything you put your mind to. At the end of the day, it’s about dedication and resilience. You will experience bad days but keep going. Use the bad days as a learning experience and allow it to make you better. You will be amazed at how much you will grow in such a short amount of time. When you give a patient’s confidence back to them and see how grateful they are to feel good about their smile, it makes every tough day worth it.

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
The community! This includes classmates, staff, and patients. Each and every one of them have taught me something valuable and keep me grounded. I will forever cherish all of the bonds and friendships made in Caldwell Hall.

What are your future plans once you become an RDH?
I plan to stay around Monroe and start in private practice!!

1. If I’m not at Caldwell Hall, I’m probably out on the intramural fields! I love all things sports and have played intramurals here at ULM and even represented our school at state! 🏀🏈🥎
2. I used to spend my summers as a camp counselor and absolutely love working with kids! In my free time, I also love to babysit! I could see this love being incorporated into my job and working in a pediatrics setting!!🤗🤗
3. ULM Dental hygiene runs in my family and I’ve loved getting to follow in their footsteps here at Caldwell Hall🥰

What advice would you give to someone who is considering dental hygiene?
I would 100% say go for it!!! This program has been so rewarding and I’ve learned so much along the way! You can do hard things and will be so worth it in the long run.

What has been your favorite part about dental hygiene school so far?
My favorite part of hygiene school so far has definitely been the people I’ve met along the way! It truly is the people that make the place:) The friendships I’ve made over this past year will follow me into my career and life after school! These instructors truly are the best and have poured into me, both as a person and a future hygienist. Most importantly, the relationships I’ve built with my patients! They are our rocks and it has been a privilege to get to know each of them!

This past Friday was Give Kids a Smile Day! We provided oral hygiene instruction to the kids that attended and administered fluoride to protect their teeth! We are so thankful to be able to serve our community! 💜🦷🪥
