Friends who inspire!

Today, I was inspired by to dust off my weighted vest and get moving! Marleigh, one of the OG STN queens from our first fat loss course in 2020, is a shining example of inspiration.

Even after graduating, she remains a dear friend and continues to motivate not just me, but everyone around her. Her leadership and willingness to lead by example are truly admirable.

Thank you, Marleigh, for being a constant source of encouragement in my life!

It’s not Christmas but Christmas will come in a blink of an eye!

I just came across this picture and it took me back to my strength coaching days!

What is unique about a career in the fitness and nutrition space compared to other professions is that we become like family with clients.

We get invited to their weddings, baby showers, other family events…we become like besties

They trust and rely on us!
The reason why there is such a bond that most times gets created is because we have a little part in their transformation and personal growth.

We don’t have a magic wand.

If they do the work we ask of them, they will see incredible results but somehow they become extremely grateful to us their trainer or nutrition coach and give us all the credit.

Changing our body and health is more than push ups and food.

There is a a lot of emotions, beliefs, and subconscious behaviors that come up to the surface. Some more difficult to face that others.

It leaves the client in a spot of vulnerability but when you have the right coach, the trust in the trainer relationship starts to solidify.

Once the trust is there is when things take off because they respect the coaching and mentoring.

They end up trusting the process.

They end up just wanting to make their coach proud!

I am beyond blessed & honored that so many people have put their trust in me and in my service to them!

I take very seriously what I do!

When folks hire me for my services, they get more than what they are asking for and sometimes it can seem overwhelming to them.

Some even quit but those who know that growth requires to face the uncomfortable then BOOM!

They become better than when they first walked in.

I wish I had a group picture with everyone who were able to go through the fire that refines with me!

I am the CEO of my body!

This purely relates to how efficient can I be when it comes to maintaining a healthy body.

There’s no confusion.

There’s no restriction.

There’s no frustration.

It’s realistic.

It’s simple.

It’s habit focused.

It’s sustainable.

Perfection is not required but having a plan is.

We probably already know that we need to eat more of the good stuff but then many more questions come up like how much should I eat? when should I eat? what foods should I avoid? What diet should I do? What are the rules? 😱

Nutrition doesn’t end with knowing what to eat and how much to eat.

Our focus with nutrition usually starts when we are wanting to get healthier, lose weight or you have a fitness goal of some sort.

Some are new in the journey and some are extremely frustrated from trying all the things that don’t stick.

Nutrition success requires you to show up for yourself in more ways than you realize.

You’ll need to work on mindset shifts and challenge some of the beliefs you have of yourself and the way you should go about a journey like this.

You’ll need to replace old habits with new ones.

You’ll want to understand your nutritional needs, yes, but you’ll need to know how to stick with it.

You’ll need to show up for accountability and a willingness to not just learn but to move into the actions that align with your goal.

It’s going to take going deeper and end the madness of trying things that are topical, superficial, scammy with a fast result promises, & restrictive.

It’s not that you can’t stick to the habits that lead to results.

It’s that your systems are broken.

Maybe you are waking up too late.

Maybe you are going to sleep too late.

Maybe you start a meal plan filled with veggies you hate.

Maybe you drop your exercise routine cuz it requires 5 hours a week but all you’ve got to give is 3.

Maybe you love carbs but are trying to stick to a low carb or Keto diet.

Can we just take a deep breath and take a step back please?

What if you were to fix your systems?

What if you were to aim to go to sleep 15 minutes earlier & wake up 15 minutes earlier so you have time to go for a walk or plan your meals.

What if instead of cutting carbs you take stock of how much you are eating and can adjust overall intake in a way that will lead to results while having carbs:

What if you make your nutrition plan in accordance to the foods you love with the realization that cake may not be a part of your daily diet but it can me part of your overall diet on occasion.

Maybe you only have time to exercise 1-3x a week so you plug it in to your schedule and make an appointment with yourself.

Yes it’s true that you will need to make changes that will seem difficult at first but creating systems that help you stick to your habits has been an extremely effective strategy that my girls learn to use in my programs.

Start small and build from there!

You don’t need to have a fancy sounding and complex diet or exercise plan to see results.

Having systems in place is the secret sauce that will help you stick to the habits and behaviors needed for a healthy bod!

Here is my grocery shopping system that has been extremely effective for me.

1. I go with a plan. I take a little extra time to think about the meals I’ll be having and lost those ingredients by the department/aisle. This saves me a ton of time!

2. I make sure to eat before I go! This has truly been one of the biggest game changers with maintaining a healthy weight! When shopping hungry, I most likely end up with filling my cart with more food than I need and that is probably when you’ll see a little more junk food that somehow made into my cart 🤷🏻‍♀️.

3. I stick to the list! I make the decision ahead of time that if I don’t have it in the plan, it doesn’t make it to the list. Period!

4. Convenient options help me keep it simple which in turn makes it easy for me to stick to my overall nutrtion plan. Cooked chicken, chopped onion, salad bags, and any other pre-cooked/pre-made meals help me a ton!

I am not new to hearing how daunting having a fat loss goal can be when aiming for the scale to go down.

The scale is a tool we use in the STN programs but it cannot be the main focus because if it is, our joy will be robbed from us.

Here is the thing.

I don’t think that the solution is to fear the scale or hide the scale.

There is insight to gain from using the scale as one of our monitoring tools but the caveat is that one must use it correctly and understand it correctly.

Many of the girls have learned more about the scale and how to use it as a data collector tool rather than attaching their emotions to it.

The scale will for sure trend down as seem on the charts pictured in the slides.

Notice the ups and downs but then see the trend?

It is down which eventually will happen as you continue to aim for consistency.

Today Is day one of my training for the sport of .

If I’m honest, I’m significantly rusty in specifically training to compete in this sport (7 years rusty 😬)

With out having my coach to tell me what to do, I felt quite lost and overwhelmed on where to begin.

I did alot of weeks of research, calls & digging deeper into looking at alot of CrossFit online programs specific to masters athletes.

Some were short sited, meaning I couldn’t look at the big picture.

Some lacked intention.

Some were just a watered down program of there regular training.

Some were decent but not for me.

I had to buy into these and wait a few weeks to see what the training looked like more clearly.

I was flustered and spending way too much money on trying to figure it out.

Nothing seemed right. I was getting discouraged.

I sure got spoiled in all my years with Team CrossFit Academy.

I struggled with knowing that individual design was of course the best route for any athlete but the folks I would select are out of my budget range.

Might make sense for a pro but not much for me as a recreational athlete so I needed a plan b.

I needed a plan that would get me as close as possible to individual design trusting that I have the back ground & experience to make appropriate adjustments if and when needed.

As I was settling for one, I randomly came across and it fit the bill so perfectly!

They provide all I was looking for.

They also made it easy for me to see the big picture with the end in mind which for me is to do well in the & crush it in the
