We at Douglass & Zook remember, Lt. Col. Allen Allensworth, a trailblazing educator, military chaplain, and community leader, who passed away in Monrovia in September 1914, after a tragic accident. Born into slavery and rising to become the first African American lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, Allensworth’s life was marked by courage, faith, and pioneering vision. His story reminds us of the leadership, resilience, and service rooted in our own history. We honor his legacy and the lasting impact he made both locally and beyond.
