Worldwide, Family Based Treatment, or FBT, is considered to be the Gold Standard for the early intervention treatment of Eating Disorders. It is an effective, efficient,research-supported treatment protocol for Adolescents and Emerging Adults struggling with eating disorders.

FBT can be applied to the restrictive eating disorders and for the full range of eating disorders - Anorexia, Atypical Anorexia, ARFID, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorder.

Eating disorders do not Descriminate. They occur in all genders, all ethnicities, all cultures, and most imporantly - all body shapes and sizes.

At Resilience DBT & Eating Recovery, we utilize FBT to train and empower parents to recognize and intervene in the illness that has hijacked their child. FBT harnasses the love and parental intuition as expert healing agents in supporting their loved one through the recovery process.

FBT is grounded in the understanding that eating disorders are serious medical and psychiatric illnesses that require active, structured intervention. Parents are not blamed. Instead, they are supported and guided to take a leadership role in restoring nutrition, interrupting eating disorder behaviors, and creating a home environment that promotes healing.

In Phase 1, caregivers take charge of meals and weight restoration with clinical support.
In Phase 2, autonomy is gradually returned as stability and rationality improves.
In Phase 3, the focus shifts toward adolescent development and relapse prevention.

Throughout FBT treatment, we help families
• Separate the eating disorder from their child
* Reverse a process that is hijacking their child's mind.
• Reduce shame and secrecy
• Strengthen parental confidence
• Improve communication and emotional regulation
• Put in the building blocks for relapse prevention and full recovery.

FBT aligns naturally with DBT principles by balancing acceptance and change. Families learn how to offer distress tolerance skills while maintaining clear, consistent boundaries around food and safety.

Eating Disorders are progressive illnesses. If your child is showing signs of an eating disorder, early intervention matters! FBT should be considered as First-Line-of-Treatment.

Family love in recovery is not passive. It is structured, intentional, and protective.

During Eating Disorder Awareness Week, we are highlighting the powerful impact of Family Based Treatment FBT for adolescents struggling with eating disorders.

FBT is an evidence based approach that empowers parents to take an active leadership role in restoring their child’s physical and emotional health. Families are not blamed. They are equipped with clear guidance, practical tools, and ongoing clinical support. Caregivers learn how to interrupt eating disorder behaviors, support consistent nourishment, and gradually return autonomy as recovery stabilizes.

Through FBT, families learn to
• Take charge of meals with calm confidence
• Separate the eating disorder from their child
• Respond to resistance without escalating conflict
• Stay united as a caregiving team
• Balance structure with compassion

Family love in recovery means stepping in when the eating disorder attempts to take control.
It means holding boundaries while offering reassurance.
It means remaining steady, even during the most difficult moments.

You do not have to navigate this alone.

Let Freedom Ring!

Today the team of Resilience Therapy rejoices as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his committment to equality and dignity for all.

"Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our souls when we look the other way."
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Let his dream be our continued vision and our continued committment. Never give up.

Wishing you a Happy Hanukkah!

Hannukah, otherwise known as the "Festival of Lights", is a holiday that reminds us that light will sustain us... through darkness and difficult times.

These joyous eight nights offer us a space to slow down, reconnect with what grounds you, and honor the resilience you carry. May this time bring peace, warmth, and a renewed sense of hope as you continue caring for yourself and for others, with compassion.

Hanukkah means "Dedication". At Resilience Therapy, we have a 30-year dedication to supporting our individuals and families to find full recovery and renewed wellness from Eating Disorder and Mental Health struggles. Our positive outcomes support this dedication.

Hanukkah is also a celebration of identity and core values, showing us that the Wise Mind choices and positive coping skills we make and use today can sustain us and fulfill us in years to come.
