Choosing books for your little ones? Different ages need different features to boost language development—and we’ve got the scoop!
For 1-2 year olds:
✨ Interactive features like flaps, lifts, buttons, and textures keep little hands and eyes engaged.
✨ Repetitive phrases help babies anticipate language and join in.
✨ Familiar first words: body parts, clothing, animals & sounds, vehicles & sounds, fun exclamations (Yay! Wow! Oh no! Wee!), greetings like “hi” and “bye.”
For 2-3 year olds:
✨ Repetitive sequence of events helps children predict what happens next.
✨ Variety of words: simple descriptive words, action verbs, and social language enrich vocabulary.
✨ Builds understanding of story flow and daily routines.
For 4-5 year olds:
✨ More complex vocabulary: advanced words, prepositions, descriptive words, and rich verbs expand language.
✨ Encourages reasoning, storytelling, and comprehension.
✨ Supports early literacy skills through dialogue, prediction, and imagination.
At Rose Garden Speech Therapy, we help families pick the right books for each stage to make reading fun, engaging, and language-rich! 💛
