The best kind of surgery is no surgery at all, but for neck and arm pain that has failed nonoperative treatment, motion sparing surgery such as cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) may be an excellent option. This procedure allows for continued motion in the spine, compared to fusion which restrictions motion and can put strain on the rest of the neck. At OSSNJ, Dr. Vizzone and Dr. Albano are well versed and expertly trained in CDA as an alternative to fusion. Dr. Albano has the distinction of implanting the first Simplify Cervical Disc Arthroplasty in the country, and Dr. Vizzone is the number one surgeon in New Jersey for using disc arthroplasty. Schedule your appointment today to see if you are a candidate for this surgery. www.ossnj.com

Over the course of the last several decades, cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) has emerged as a surgical alternative for neck pain and cervical radiculopathy or arm pain. Compared with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), CDA has been shown to be superior in clinical outcomes for neck pain and disability at two and 4 years, and more closely resemble native motion of the cervical spine. CDA has also been shown to have lower reoperation and readmission rates over a 30-day period as well as over 5 years. A major reason for this is the ability to maintain or even restore motion to a diseased cervical spine segment to more closely resemble the native spine, without significantly affecting the adjacent levels.
