Lifelong Montclair is an aging in place initiative of the Township of Montclair focused on transforming Montclair into a great place to grow older. The initiative is housed in the Township’s Department of Health & Human Services and is funded in part by a grant from the Partners for Health Foundation. Happy Halloween from Lifelong Montclair. We had a fabulous time at our Halloween Party this week at the Wally Choice Community Center with music by the incomparable Rhonda Denet. Our modern agers outdid themselves with their costumes this year. Thanks to Clover Health for sponsoring the refreshments for our party!

Amazing day at the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville NJ. On Tuesday, Lifelong Montclair, in collaboration with AIM (Aging in Montclair), took 50 modern agers to see the largest Hindu mandir in the Western Hemisphere. The weather was beautiful, our tour guides incredibly knowledgeable and the grounds and temples were breathtaking.

Just wrapped up our first Soulful Seniors Wellness Day at the Wally Choice Community Center. It was an energizing, engaging day for over 70 modern agers in our community. Throughout the day, participants listened to 8 mini lecture/demos focused on holistic, person centered healing modalities and
concepts including mind-body connection, sound healing, reiki, acupuncture, functional nutrition, plant powered diet, EFT Tapping and more! It was incredible to witness the power of human connection in our community today. Thanks to all of our employees and volunteers; to our co-sponsor HomeWatch Caregivers and to all of our speakers for coming out to present today. It was truly inspiring.

Summer is in full swing with Lifelong Montclair. We kicked off our ‘summer of love’ at the end of June with an incredibly groovy performance of Hair at Vanguard Theater, followed by some fascinating museum trips, a glorious outdoor concert featuring the fabulous Jacque Johnson Trio and even a pool party all accompanied by our regular roster of classes each day. Looking forward to more summer fun in August!

We concluded Older Americans Month today with a reception to celebrate our community art project entitled Aging Is…In our attempt to ‘Flip the Script on Aging’, members of our modern ager community and Glenfield Middle school students met for art making sessions at Wally Choice and Edgemont where they created individual pieces based on words and images that came to mind when asked what Aging is? The results were inspiring!

Today was a great day to promote Colorectal Awareness Month and encourage our community to get screened for colon cancer. Early this afternoon, everyone from youngsters to seniors walking into the library had to ‘pass through’ (pun intended) the giant inflatable colon courtesy of Gastroenterology Associates of NJ. Lifelong Montclair along with the Montclair Public Library hosted this event which included a very important and informative talk by Gastroenterologist Dr. Giulio Quarta MD.

Lifelong Montclair’s modern agers celebrated the holidays with a special luncheon and concert today at the Wally Choice Community Center. The fabulous Rhonda Denet sang songs of the season along with Motown hits that got us grooving on the dance floor.
