As Black History Month comes to an end and Womens History Month begins, we’re honoring Hattie Scott Peterson 👷🏾♀️
In 1946, she became the first African American woman licensed as a civil engineer in the United States. She worked on major infrastructure projects, contributed to flood protection efforts, and in 1954 became the first female engineer at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
She didn’t just build roads and flood systems, she built opportunities. Peterson also pushed for more women to enter engineering and advocated for women’s rights in the field.
Representation matters. Leadership matters. Safety and infrastructure don’t happen without pioneers like her.
We’re proud to recognize the trailblazers who helped shape the industry we serve every day.
Who is your inspiration?
