We have not forgotten about you, our patients! We are thinking of you and hoping for you and your family’s safety and wellness during these trying times.

SHELTER IN PLACE
While the office has been closed for routine exams, creating a lot of free time, we have not been sitting idly by. We have been preparing to open our practice and service our patients in the best way we know how. A new protocol has been in the works to ensure the safety of our staff and our patients, to allow a comfortable exam that minimizes the risk of exposure or transmission of COVID-19.

SAFETY MEASURES
Here are some of the STEPS HATTORI VISION HAS TAKEN TO ENSURE PATIENT SAFETY:

As always we are here for you. We are open to suggestions, so if you have any thoughts to improve the way we operate please let us know.

RESUMING ROUTINE CARE
We are currently in the process of establishing a start date to re-open. We are waiting on recommendations and guidance from the California Optometric Association and our local health officials. We will announce the date as soon as we know definitively. Please check our website regularly for updates.

Matt has been amazing as always and has been working through the shelter in place, holding things down at the office and taking contact lens orders. If you need to order please contact him and we can direct ship lenses to your home.

MASKS
Lastly, because it’s one of the more frustrating things we experience when wearing masks, here’s an article on tips on how to keep your glasses from fogging while wearing a mask.

THANK YOU
We don’t say it enough, but it becomes more evident when our world shifts so dramatically. We appreciate you supporting our small business.

Stay safe and healthy!

Looking out for the best interest and safety of our patients, our staff and the community, Hattori Vision will be closed until MAY 3rd, in accordance with the Monterey County mandatory shelter in place.

During this time, all non-essential and non-urgent activities, including routine comprehensive eye examinations and the ordering and dispensing of glasses, will not be performed.

The CDC classifies COVID-19 as a “high” public health threat. We want to be conscientious and protective of our patients, our staff and the community. For that reason, we are asking the following:

If you have traveled to, or have interacted with people who have been to affected areas identified by the CDC as having (ongoing) transmission of COVID-19, please wait at least 14 days before visiting our office.

If you have had any of the following symptoms within the last 14 days:
1. Fever
2. Cough
3. Shortness of breath
Please wait to come in until you are symptom free for 72 hours without medication.

Governor Gavin Newsom has requested that people over the age of 65 practice home isolation. In the interest of your well-being, we are requesting those over 65 reschedule your visit to our office to a later date.

In an effort to practice social distancing, our doors will be locked. We will only be allowing a limited number of patients, at one time, into our office by appointment only. We have increased our cleaning and disinfecting protocol in the office for additional protection.

We ask that you call in advance and we can either assist you in entering the office for your scheduled appointment or deliver your eyeglasses or contacts to your car in the parking lot.

If you need to order contacts or refills on prescription medications, feel free to call the office and we will be able to assist you in doing so. We can also direct ship contacts and if necessary, Dr. Covie will be available for consultation over the phone.

Please be considerate of others in order to limit the spread of this virus and keep our community healthy.

Thank you, we greatly appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Stay healthy!

Today we celebrate Dr. Ellie Hattori. In addition to it being her birthday she is also officially retiring today. Her remarkable love and dedication not only for her patients but for the profession in general is unmatched and will never be duplicated. She is a nationally recognized contact lens expert who has tackled the most difficult cases with her signature smile and has blessed many with the gift of perfect vision. As she leaves her (and Dr. Rick’s) practice in the very capable hands of Dr. Covie Gonzales she will fill her days being a proud grandmother of 4, cooking and baking for and with friends and family, and continuing to serve the community that she loves with her many volunteer positions. We LOVE you Dr. Ellie!!! Happy Birthday and enjoy retirement! ❤️

Our Story

Dr. Rick Hattori established Hattori Vision Optometry in 1973 on the Monterey Peninsula where he grew up. His vision was to serve the community with innovative and quality eye care. Today, Hattori Vision has Dr. Ellie Hattori, who focuses her practice exclusively on contact lenses that includes specialty lenses for kerataconus and post surgical patients, Dr. Elizabeth Anderson practices full scope optometry and has extensive experience in eye care for all ages, and Dr. Covie Gonzales who practices full scope optometry, that include certifications to perform lacrimal dilation and irrigation, to treat glaucoma, and to perform CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy).

Under the supervision of Dr. Rick, our doctors and staff at Hattori Vision continue to thrive into optometry cutting edge technology and offer to our patients outstanding old world service integrity.

Hattori Vision has the most extensive and expanded contact lens inventory on the Monterey Peninsula. We often are the first to have available new contact lenses releases. We especially enjoy helping our patients with the newest and latest contact lenses that will best suit their life style.
