People are inundated with information related to health and fitness, yet it is difficult to determine what strategies and tactics people should apply to reach their health and fitness goals. I have my bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a focus on exercise science. I've been in the health and fitness industry for a decade. I've been on stage at physique shows. I've competed in strongman competitions. I've road metric century rides on a road bike. I've seen what works to get clients to achieve their goals and what does not. Strategy – A plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim. A plan to achieve a goal. Strategy defines tactics and not the other way around. Tactic – An action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end. Actions taken to achieve that goal.

Training days leading up to an event should be different. Throttle back the workouts gradually in the week prior to event day and your body will be ready to perform. This does not mean take your foot off the gas completely. It means you need to be strategic with your workouts. 💪🏼🏆🏋🏼

I placed 3rd 🥉 in Central Valley’s Strongest lightweight class today. The yoke went well but I got a penalty, which set me back. I didn’t do very well on the log press. I was super disappointed in my deadlift. I struggled with it even though I’ve been repping it in training. I think the water shed the last few days to make weight may have taken more out of me than I realized. I made up for it by doing well in the duck walk to power stairs and frame carry. Not too shabby for my first competition in 10 years. I definitely learned a lot and I’m strategizing what I could do different next time… 😁😉. Thanks for putting on one hell of a competition! Now it’s time for a dram of whiskey 🥃 to numb my legs lol.

To get to the top you’ve gotta do things others don’t do or won’t do. The last few days have been a struggle. I’ve been sick, my kids have been sick, I’ve struggle to find time to get my workouts in, but with all that I’ve figured out how to navigate through it. Instead of saying “I can’t”, ask yourself “how can I?”.

Success tip: Reflect and recreate successful attempts. If you have accomplished something before, ask yourself how were you able to do it before and try and recreate the same conditions. If you had a good week of training, try and recreate the conditions that led to a good week. If you were able to overcome an obstacle or barrier, recreate the conditions to do it again. If you know something is working, try and recreate it.
